Are CD's still typically used now?
Also, why the "lol" regarding Kodi?

I wish it was fax machines. The bane of my existence as an IT person that has to deal with the medical field and attorneys.

Tax people too. IRS doesn't do email, and a lot of states don't either.

- satellite dishes
I could see these declining in use with the rise of streaming, but much of the country still doesn't have the infrastructure for cable/internet without the use of satellite dishes, so I don't see them going away within 10 years.
quote:
- cable boxes
I could see this, as streaming becomes more popular proprietary cable boxes will likely be replaced by streaming boxes.
quote:
- CDs
CDs still sell, and probably will still be sold in 10 years being so cheap to manufacture, but they are already on their way out in mainstream use.
quote:
- laptops for home use
This is a tough one. I think we will still commonly see laptops in the form of convertible tablets, considering the major advantage of typing on a keyboard for a lot of tasks.
quote:
- headphones with cords
These will probably not be nearly as common except among audiophiles.
quote:
- any cables like hdmi / Ethernet
These are here to stay for now. Ethernet offers huge advantages over WiFi for many applications, and wireless TV transmission is still quite immature technology, especially considering things like interference from all the devices you have transmitting near one another, and increasing TV resolutions (4K, etc.).

- Kodi (lol)
Kodi's been around in some form since I was a teenager and I don't see it going away for any particular reason

CDs and Kodi are not typically used now.

headphones with cords
Are any Bluetooth headphones actually worth a shite? Yet to find a pair that is comparable to a decent pair of cans...

I think they'll still be pretty common
Banks will be a lot different.
Cashiers may not exist

cell phones may have evolved into a different form factor by then.
i have a hard time believing a big fragile glass rectangle is the ultimate evolution of our personal digital experience.

Standard light bulbs
Basic thermostats

CDs will still be produced and bought, but it will likely be a niche audiophile market.
I think you're way off on the headphone with cord prediction. The amount of companies making good cans, headphone amps, and desktop/ portable DACs, has exploded over the last 5 years.

For TV signal, sure, but I'm interested to see what comes from Elon Musk's plan to cover the globe with low orbit broadband satellites. The low orbit cuts the latency issue satellite internet has now to make it a viable broadband alternative.

- laptops for home use
I can see a shift back to 1 computer per family rather than 1 computer per person since they'd be rarely used, but there are still times when you need to use an actual computer with a mouse and keyboard.

- any cables like hdmi / Ethernet
Wired > Wifi for so many things, from speed to security. Ethernet's not going anywhere. People will still use it at work and most of the home users of Ethernet either are in a small space where running a cable isn't a big deal, or they are doing gaming where speed and reliability of the signal are very important.
As for HDMI, I think it will take longer than 10 years for that kind of change to occur. But I can see a combination of wifi/bluetooth becoming the standard transmission method. Can any networking/media guys give a reason why the connection between the streaming box and the TV needs to remain wired?
As for my predictions
- Landline phones. Most people I know that still have them are either old or have it for an alarm system.
- Remote controls. They'll still probably come with devices, but in 10 years I'd be pretty disappointed if Alexa couldn't handle everything we do with multiple remotes now.
- Non LED light bulbs. They are still too expensive but once the market shake out and consolidates the prices will come down. I've bought several LED bulbs on clearance, when they only cost twice as much as incandescent bulbs instead of 7x, it really is a no-brainer.

There are ones you can already get that are really cheap. The amount of power savings and life of LEDs is already at the point where you are dumb to still be using incandescent.

i already have a shelf full of older LED bulbs that work perfectly fine i've replaced with smarter LEDs with more features or better light output.

2 years ago i was crowing about how i wasnt going to replace them for 20 years
