Yea, and the settings app for iOS is atrocious. Notifications and the keyboard on iOS are significantly worse too. Those are my major complaints

Well, not as much curious as to just pointing out that you also let your biases show in this statement.

I took his statement as being framed from familiarity. It always feels like you go "backward" when you leave your comfort area.

I'm typing this on an og pixel 3. The small form factor and the rear finger print reader are almost impossible to find on a phone that's not a cheap pos these days. Its definitely long in the tooth but I don't know if I can give it up until it fully croaks

Staying with my 8Pro
I'm about a month into mine.

Question: do you notice the zoom on the camera being suboptimal? Mine won't zoom smoothly - rather, it sort of jumps to the new zoom level. Pretty annoying and definitely noticeable in videos.

How’s it match up against Samsung?

Seems it’s a matter of taste.

Samsung is better in just about every way. The camera on the Pixel 9 seems to be very good, but in reality I mean it’s splitting hairs.

The main reason I would consider a pixel is for the default Android software.

I’d also get the basic 9 as it has the same processor and features. The main difference being size.

Overall, Samsung is the best Android smartphone out.

IMO this is what makes the pixel the best android smartphone out there. I switched from a long history of flagship galaxys to the pixel 7 pro when it came out specifically to try the unmolested OS. So far its been great. The OS just feels better than samsung's version. Just got the pixel 9 pro last week.

Pixels have a nice smooth, clean version of Android. Samsung has better battery life and possibly better reception. Google makes it super easy to remove their OS and use a custom ROM.

Which will have the better wifi, wifi calling, hotspot and Bluetooth between the Pixel 9 and Samsung 24? I read somewhere that Samsung 25 will be coming out in January.

Inclined to agree. The main argument I'd make in favor of the Pixel is that the hardware is good enough that it's not worth worrying about. The camera is good and the software is very nice. I'm still on the fence about AI, but it might become something useful.

Still, the S24 line from Samsung is pretty hard to beat if you're just looking for the most powerful device.

Still using a Pixel 3a. What am I missing with the newer versions?

been on my 9XL for a few days now

the only glaring issue has been spotty fingerprint recognition. pretty bizarre how this has regressed. i do have a screen protector on though, and someone said that the screen protector mode needs to be turned on to adjust the sensitivity levels. i dunno, still bizarre.

facial recognition works amazingly well though.

i haven't gotten into much of the AI just yet, but this phone just feels really good in the hands. better than the 7 or 8 did in mine, I'm upgrading from the 7 XL.

operationally, it's running pretty dang crisp so far, the picture quality is extremely good.

iOS is a more simplified system to use. I don't see how that's even debatable.

This is very debatable as iOS doesn't do many things logically. It is dumbed down to an illogical level and that makes it very difficult for average intelligence folks.

For example do you like your phone to ring loud so you can hear it anywhere in the house? Do you like to have your alarm volume lower because you keep your phone next to your bed and dont want to wake the whole house?

Too bad. iOS doesn't let you do such simple things.

I could not disagree more. It's so unintuitive. The lack of a back button infuriates me.

Android is already moving away from the back button. Both OSs can utilize the swipe-right to go back. Android will fully drop the back button in the future.

I can adjust the volume of the ringer or alarm. Is that what you’re talking about? It’s as simple as adjusting a slider.

My wife can get either the Samsung S24 or the Pixel 9 XL for free. The S24 Ultra will cost $200 more.
