The new Moto X (5.2", metal, leather) could be the best Android phone ever made

Today, Motorola announced its second-generation Moto X, the successor to the company’s rebooted flagship smartphone that was unveiled just over a year ago. Yes, the phone will simply be called Moto X again — not X+1, as some rumors had suggested — and it’ll be available for the same $499 unlocked as the original when it launches later in September (that's for 16GB; the 32GB version runs at a $50 premium). AT&T, among others, will be offering it starting at $99 on contract.
So what makes this phone so great? For starters, it looks really good. Under design guru Jim Wicks, Motorola’s attention to detail is rivaled in the smartphone industry only by HTC and Apple. The original Moto X’s magic trick was that it felt pretty small for its generous 4.7-inch display, and the new one pulls the same sleight of hand — but it does it with a 5.2-inch screen, a size that’s more in line with 2014 expectations. Much of that magic stems from Motorola’s now-trademark curved back, which leaves ample room for guts (battery, circuitry, so on) in the center but slopes to nearly nothing toward the left and right edges.

Really REALLY fricking tempting, but gotta wait for the new Nexus device and then decide, I'm a Nexus fanboy.

Its taller and wider than the nexus 5......sadface.

Idk care about that, I've already accepted the Nexus 6 is going to be either 5.2 or 5.5, as long as it's slim with a small bezel and still very nice in the hand I don't care.
This sounds like it feels great in the hands and not overly big.

I thought the same thing and then got the One Plus One.
Bigger phones = better battery life, better car capabilities, better browsing on the couch, better work functionality, better to watch a movie on airplanes, etc.

Looks good. It's a little bit taller and wider than the LG G2

Who runs the phones naked in here? I'm really wishing they had two versions: premium outside and a cheaper cover version for the people who are going to put a cover on it anyway.

And I'm on Verizon - so I have to wait to see if the new Nexus (could be pushed into November, now, brah) is on Verizon as well.
I've been happy with my Razr Maxx so far.

quote:maybe, but not in this case. The original moto x had pretty bad battery life and that was a 4.7 720 p screen. The new one only boosts the battery by a 100 mAH while increasing screen size, resolution, and the processor. This has all the makings of terrible battery life. We will have to wait and see how it translates for this phone.

I have a tablet/PC for that.

Early reviews are starting to come in. The Verge seems to really like it!

It's still too highly priced. $350 for a Nexus is a much better deal

I have never bought or used a case ever. iPhone, iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S, Nexus 4, Nexus 5...all caseless. Never dropped one, never cracked a screen or back, never had to replace one.

There is no chance Verizon is getting the nexus 6. It will be GSM only. Verizon won't get a nexus until volte is completely ready. We may get a nexus variant that is a new Android Silver device, but not much is known there.
Either way, the nexus 6 will be made by Motorola and be very similar to the new X, except with the snapdragon 805 and 3 GB of ram. I still have the galaxy nexus, but will be getting the new x. It isn't worth waiting anymore on Verizon.

The new Moto X is in a class of it's own right now - the advanced features are just unmatched by any phone by any manufacturer. It is the perfect example that hardware specs definitely have a place but are not the end all, be all, for performance.
This is the one phone I might dump my Maxx for. I'm spoiled to the battery life but the new Qualcom charger for the MX puts 8 hours of use with only a 15 minute charge so, suddenly, battery size becomes a bit less of a factor. I'm going to wait until the other Moto phones are announced including, the Droid lineup before deciding. If this year follows last year's example there may be a Maxx with the Moto X features...either Motorola branded or the Droid line. Motorola has trademarked the name "Motorola Maxx" so there's hope something equivalent to the Droid Maxx could come to all carriers. Tapping foot, waiting.....
