Would love some advice and recommendations. We need a soundbar & sub to replace our current sub & soundbar on the TV in the living room. Not opposed to full surround but are ok with nice sub/soundbar. We would also like 2 decent speakers for elsewhere in the house, a bonus if we could take one outside to the deck if needed. Want to keep a budget of around $1000 for everything if possible. Priority on simple setup and use.

Looking at Sonos, but its closer to $2000 to get what I described above, Just the sub and soundbar pushes well over $1000. I do really like what Sonos offers.

Question: is it worth it get another brand soundbar/sub combo (something up to $500) for the front, and they buy the Sonos for other rooms (combination of 2 or 3 Sonos Ones, Sonos Move, Play 5?).

Or should I just consider another brand altogether? Thanks in advance for the comments.

Unfortunately Sonos is exactly what you are looking for because of the MOVE.

No, I would spend more money on a sound bar and sub for my living room.

If a portable speaker for outside isn’t a big deal look into Denon HEOS. Would be a cheaper option.

i built my sonos system the ghetto way - craiglist and amazon warehouse.

having said that its one of the most reliable technologies i've installed. anyone can enjoy any music anytime in any room of the house by just requesting it with their voice or maybe 2 clicks on their phone (even visitors).

i agree w/ wise; the sub is key. keep an eye out; i see them under $500 all the time, esp. now that there's a newer model.

Thanks for the information. Is there anything about the older model worth avoiding?

wise has installed a billion of these and ive installed *one*.

but its a sub; it sounds great; i dont even think about it anymore because its hidden. i dont think i've ever heard of anything wrong with the gen 1 hub but wise would know.

Currently building mine the eBay way. Don't seem to pop up on Amazon at all.

craiglist was a goldmine back when I had IFTTT and stringify scripts that would notify me anytime someone posted something.

i scooped up stuff for 75% off and higher.

then the frickwads at IFTTT removed this capability and Comcast bought stringify and promptly killed it.

That was all local stuff? I'm sure some parts of the country would be a goldmine for slightly used SONOS stuff but I don't think South LA is it.

yes, nashville area. lots of 'older' music-industry types here who don't realize what they have so they put stuff up for ridiculous prices sometimes but you have to jump on it right away.

also the wife has a great rep on buy/sell/trade and i've gotten deals there before as well.

i picked up a sonos one at goodwill for $7 one time (think i posted that on here)

i paid $400 for the sub and that was an awkward moment because it was a saturday morning and i had taken my 3yo to the park when i got the notification so i had to talk him into 'going with dad downtown' and when i met the guy in a parking garage he said he had gotten about 30 responses since i replied but he honored the deal. it was still in the box.

It was until they rolled out their S1 and S2 apps. S1 is hot garbage.

Sonos is def gonna force my hand on upgrading the few older products I have.

The correct answer. Add in the rest of Sonos ecosystem later.

I just started getting some sonos products within the last few months. All used, all previous gen/no longer for sale but they're all S2 compatible.

Don't sleep on the Ikea branded Sonos speakers for $100. They're pretty damn good.

There's a cast icon in most phone music apps so if someone is visiting and connected to your WiFi they can just open Spotify and start streaming directly to any of your Sonos speakers. No Sonos app needed.

How hidden are we talking about? Wouldn't mind one in the future but don't have a good spot to put it other than inside the wooden cabinet of the built in.

Thanks for all of the comments. Costco has the Beam on sale, thinking I will start with that and the sub and go from there.

You can't enjoy DTS music, though

Also looking to do something similar. Is it possible to play Sirius radio on speakers throughout house and on porch? I know nothing about this kind of stuff. It’s just me, so it will be the same thing playing all over.

I don't even know what that means. I play my local flac files and I can't imagine anything sounding better.

Amazon offers a Sonos bundle that equates to the surrounds being free.
