Is there a brand or model known for making dialogue easier to hear? Especially if there is background music?

My yamaha has a setting for just what you're looking for.

SONOS has both 'dialog enhancement' and 'night mode' which make dialog clearer and the loud explosions less loud.

Having better speakers gives you more options, period. Bad speakers create bad sound. And pretty much any modern soundbar will have a night mode that turns down the bass.
With that said, your sound mixing options are generally going to be on your output device, generally your TV. Get a decent set of speakers, then tweak the sound settings there.

i thought this was going to be about delays. what's a really good soundbar that has no delays?
my soundbar does OK for native media (like discs) but has a noticeable delay for streaming content

Turn off all the fancy dolby crap and your existing speakers will probably play dialogue better, when I want to have the TV volume lower and still be able to hear I just put it into the simplest stereo mode available.

Being over 60 with tinnitus from guitar amps, duck blinds, & short friends, my buddy's would say hearing aids is what I need.

This thread caught my eye and ended up buying one of these.... annoyingly my TV is so old that it does not have an HDMI arc port or an optical out....bought an HDMI audio extractor...hoping that does the trick...we shall see when I get home

I had the same issue but I just decided to use the fiber cable that it comes with for now. You have to use a separate remote which my wife’s hates but her alternative was me getting a new tv so she’s dealing with it for now

Zvox sound base if tv is not wall mounted
They also have sound bars but I’ve never heard one.
My Yamaha sound bar has a clear dialogue setting as well

ZVOX Voice Clarifying Sound Bar I got a similar ZVOX for my 86 year old mother. It works spectacularly, and I don't have to endure her turning up the volume to ear-splitting levels.
