Looking to install a soundbar, sub, and 4 in-ceiling speakers. I was 100% sold on Sonos until reading about all of the problems with the recent app update. My in-ceilings are already prewired, so the only wireless speaker will be the sub. Does TD still recommend Sonos? Anyone experience problems with the new app update or is it still working fine for yall?

App update sucks. It will get better. Still recommend. The new era speakers are legit upgrade from the Sonos 1. So get a few to spread around the house.

Most of the people with app issues are the legacy users with older setups

0 issues with my set up. Arc + Sub + 2 Era 100 Surrounds

THIS!!!

its almost fricking unusable right now.

constantly cant find my system and i have to wait and wait and wait..

starts playing apple music or plex and just randomly stops in the middle of a song and i have to go back to the app and restart it.

wtf sonos. there was literally nothing wrong to the app before. this is why google is going to win.

Appreciate the info. Sounds like I might be okay since I’ll be starting fresh. No library of music or Sonos account yet. I’ll be looking to install in about 2-3 months so hopefully bugs will be fixed by then.

Despite recent app issues, still the simplest solution for a home system that everyone in the house (husband, wife, kids, grandparents, visitors) can use without messing something up.

That said if I was a single and living alone with some extra disposal income, I would do something else. But that has passed.

Have the same setup and the app update resolved an infrequent connection issue.

Are the in-ceilings in the same zone as the soundbar?

For context I have the following:
- playbar, 2 play 1 surrounds and a sub
- 2 additional stereo pair play1 setups
- Ikea frame
- Ikea bookshelf
- Sonos 1
- beam
- connected via Ethernet aka Sonos net

9x out of 10 it can't find the system at all and I either have to restart the app 2 or 3x or just check back 20 minutes later and try again. Even when it connects it drops after a song or 2.

Plex amp is now useless. Before I could use it as a controller to play anything on any speaker.

Wife can't get her iphone to connect at all.

Prior to the update it was so rock solid I never even thought twice about playing any music. Sonos was an appliance and was always on in the background and life was good.

Seems like only a month ago..oh wait it WAS.

frick them for this train wreck. It's embarrassing to have friends over and I can't do shite like play a random fricking song now. My wife thinks I'm an idiot. Funny how we take things for granted when they are working and when they don't, it's me, Mr Tech, who's the moron.

FWIW, I haven’t had any problems with the new update.

It actually finds my speakers a lot faster than the old app.

Took a little bit to learn where everything was but now no issues.

Yes, in-ceilings will be on the same zone. I’m mainly putting the in-ceilings to spread sound into the open concept kitchen area for music, but I should be able to use them for rear surrounds too right? Not a perfect location for rear surrounds (in-ceiling) but wanted to keep a clean look in the new house. For music, sound would play through soundbar, sub, and in-ceilings together unless I unpair them correct?

Both my wife and I are also have app issues. It opens and finds the system fast, but changing rooms or adding rooms or even changing the volume is so freaking slow. Sometimes fully closing the app and starting over works for a bit.

its fricking stupid.

NOTHING WAS WRONG BEFORE.

i may try yanking out the ethernet and go back to WiFi and see if its more stable which is the fricking stupidest thing ever because one of the appealing things about sonos was sonosnet where it creates its own speaker network outside of wifi.

1. Update is horrible and I am constantly having the same issues already mentioned

2. Sonos is still the best option

I’ve got a mix of some play:1 and 1st gen Amps that are barely S2 capable and stuff as new Beams and it all seems to work fine now.

The roam has been the only real disappointment I’ve had with Sonos.
