The dyson does look cooler than my neato but it is also taller. If it can't squeez under most furniture then what's the point of having one? But it does have tank tracks so I'll have to buy one. ....

If I had only one real complaint about the Neato, mine always complains when it "sees" something in its way. Most of the time, nothings there, but it won't move until you reset it. Tank tracks are awesome!

How does the Neato handle objects on the floor?
My kids leave little toys all over the place, or wires, chargers, etc.

I have dog toys on the floor and I find it does have some difficulties in things scattered all over. I get the same response as I posted above.

I was just thinking about this. My Neato still gets stuck under furniture too so maybe that's why Dyson isn't letting theirs go under furniture. I don't know. Good question though.

Have had a neat for almost 2 years, this is my second one and I'm about to defend it back.
Both the ones I've had will start vacuuming and then give "my vision is blocked" errors randomly. Some days it will vacuum the whole house, others I'll have to acknowledge the error 6 or 7 times. Defeats the purpose of me having an automated vacuum cleaner if I need to I have to be there to acknowledge an error.

I looked at that one, but there is no release date as of yet.

Did you update to the latest software? I think the latest is 3.4 right now.

Depending on the object it will go around or roll right over it. I have dog toys scattered about so I try to pick them up so neato does not push them all around the house. I have come home before and found it high centered of various squeak toys. Not a big deal in my book since its cleaning when Im not around.

Right now it's only being sold in Japan, and it's going for $1,000. I've been considering getting a robot maid to keep my floors clean. I hate sweeping with a passion, and I usually don't have to tell my friends that for them to know. But I won't be rolling with the tank anytime soon.
Though with my bitch's toys all over the house, I'm wondering if the random zig zag roomba might be best for me.

The Roomba sucks because it can't see at all. It just randomly goes around and eventually hits all the spots. It's horribly inefficient.

Don't cry too hard. My guess is they're staying Japan, because they're robot crazy and will spend it. They don't want to introduce it yo the U.S.market while the cost is still that high.

So after reading this thread I picked up the Neato Botvac 80. It arrived Thursday via Amazon. Doing the first run now. Will it tell me if its full and needs to take a dump of its bin?

Took a hiatus from TD, but this is the thread that brought me back. Looking forward to a first hand account of the Dyson from some deep pocketed OTer/SOB that can give it to us.

I had both the Roomba and Neato at the same time. I bought them from Costco and had the Roomba first and wanted to try the Neato and take back whatever we didn't like.
Paper towel test: We tore a small piece of paper towel and placed it all over the floors in little specks throughout the house. We wanted to see what each robot could and couldn't get.
Roomba:
Random pattern and way too fast. Would hit all the baseboards too hard. Eventually started to scuff them. On the paper towel test it got about 75% of them. Very loud and would sometimes get stuck.
Neato:
We got the Botvac version (newer). It is very organized and uses LiDAR to detect where to go. It does not go to different rooms unless it is complete with that one. After 3 days of paper towel tests, the Neato would get about 95-100%. It is much quieter and has a larger bin for dirt. The new Botvac has the side sweeper for the corners.
Overall, we are much much happier with the Neato. Both can be had around 300 at Costco and Costco will gladly accept a return.
I'll post a pic of the pattern Neato does in a sec.

I have a buddy stationed in Japan, and I'm going to have him look around and see if any used ones exist where he's located. If not I'll have him look for a new one and give me the total cost to have one shipped. It's hard to justify $1,000 so maybe I'll save for a month or two just to take it some of the sting.

Wanted to mention that the newest version of the Neato (Botvac) is at Costco regular for around 300. It is supposedly vastly better than the old ones (XV). With Costco return policy, you can't lose.

I see it at Cost Co. for $349
