Rough estimate is $724 for all equipment.

This will cover all windows and doors. Out of this, is there anything in this estimate that I can maybe do without? For example, will a motion sensor and a glass sensor allow me to do away with 3 window sensors?

My old system is not working. I suspect a simple door sensor is out, but it is "dated" by today's standards and having the ability to receive text message alerts and view video footage appeals to me. I suspect a newer system from the dealer that installed it will cost considerably more, correct?

Are there really any drawbacks to SimpliSafe (other than not being able to control it by Google Home or Amazon Alexa)?

Thoughts?

ya'll need to move.

i'm pretty sure 75% of my windows are unlocked on any given day and if wasnt for wink locking my doors at night, i'd probably never lock them.

We actually live in a very safe area. And the way our house is positioned, the entire "back" area is at a lower risk for a burglary, or so that is my thought, because it is all enclosed and no one lives behind us. Plus we have a guard dog that will lick you to death if threatened.

I'm just trying to determine if window sensors are absolutely necessary for the windows that are in my living room, since I will have two motion sensors placed in this area (criss cross). Same goes for my kitchen (open concept).

I have simplisafe. I dont use the motion detectors , the auxilary siren, the panic buttons or glass sensors. Also only have 1 keypad. If you wanted to save money.

Ouch, I'm waiting for the Ring Alarm. Cut that product cost and monthly cost in half if not more.

Abode

Check out abode. Their ceo split from ADT a few years back and started his own smarthome security company.

Checkout their subreddit too for more detailed information

I went with self monitoring with ismart alarm. Have cameras with motion sensors indoors and window/door sensors. The app works really well and is customizable for arming times. You can listen and speak through the camera also. The system was pretty cheap at $200 and works with alexa. I get notifications to my cell and email within seconds when it’s triggered or loses power/connection

We have SimpliSafe and it's solid. I bought a lower package that covered just the doors and a few windows and just added the other window sensors over time. I don't have any motion sensors. I just figured that we'd set them off accidentally or the dog would.

I have all that you have except the glass break sensor. I have one motion detector in the living room that I never activated. I love the motion detector in my garage though. Not set to alarm, but to send me a text if there is motion in my garage. Anyone ever tries to break into my garage I will get a heads up.

If you have kids I would put motion sensors in their bedroom. I know that was a biggie for my wife when we installed ours.

We skipped the master and common areas.

If you set the alarm when you go to bed, you most likely do not use the motion sensors. So, if someone were to break in while you were sleeping and happend to choose those windows, you may have no idea.
