$649 was what you world pay for a new iPhone with base level for storage for a long time. Anyone remember that?
Now we have this: The new iPhone XS starts at $999. The XS Max starts at $1099. The Pixel 3 released today is $799 and the Pixel 3XL is $899. The original OnePlus One was $299 when it launched. The OnePlus 6 was $529 at launch. Prices are just creeping up and up everywhere.
WTF happened?

The market is willing to pay more, so companies will charge more.

Wireless networks pushed consumers away from the 2 year subsidies and promoted the equipment installment plans. Better, faster components like processor and cameras cost more to make along with R&D that gets combined into the final price of the device.

I member.
Smartphones just do more than they used to, even 5 years ago. And they’re ubiquitous now so you can’t really do without one. More demand + More features = higher prices.

Those things haven’t driven up company costs 40% so I doubt it’s that. Probably just market economics. Glad my company pays for my phone.

I think phone companies realized how integral phones are to society and realized that people would pay almost anything for them ala increase in demand. Costs of making the phones has gone up much, I suspect that in a few years there will be new phone companies with much cheaper phones that bring down the prices of the iPhones/Droids, but they're not seen as viable options currently.

Payment plans. Debt allows people to buy more phone than they can afford

Companies can't compete on essential features anymore. Normal average priced phones do everything a normal person needs.
So now they're packing new high-end features/luxuries into these phones and charging a premium for them.
No one really should be complaining unless they just gotta have the latest, greatest thing. And if that's you, that says more about you than it does about the market.

Remember when you had to have a Phone, Camera, Music Player, Portable TV, Garmin and Computer to somewhat do all the things that today's smartphone does? I 'member.

I also think they are just putting more shite in there to compete with the other fad of another phone.
Like the iPhone face id that's more advanced than the Android version. Honestly who gives a frick but apparently everyone does and will pay more for it.

loving the pixel..feels sci-fi fast and has tons of new features over the nexus 6 i was rocking prior to it.
not interested in paying over $400 for any phone ever.

Man, going from TouchID to FaceID has been one of my favorite features. It's awesome. I know it's so small, but damn is it insanely nice.

That's not what I mean. I mean the tech or whatever in iPhones version compared to the lower tech but quicker Android versions
Like OnePlus 5 and up have face unlock that is much quicker and cost less but iPhone has to have the 30+ 3d points to recognize.

yea I paid $115 for my Pixel earlier this year. I have no plans on upgrading any time soon. The phone does everything I need and more. Had a Nexus 6P before and it was fantastic until I lost it.

That phone is a ripoff. The 8 Plus is a better phone than that crap.

Losing a feature is nice?

Hell you got new iPhones every two years for free with the contract.

Damn y’all are some haters. Replacing a feature with a better one is nice in my reality.
