38-TB drives
Surely you mean 3 8TB drives and not 38 TB drives, right

I'll likely need another 8tb drive within the year. 4K movies take up a ton of space and with data caps I'm streaming as little as possible. Add tv shows, my personal HD video and photo library spanning the last 20 years and an entire music library in flac format and I bet it's going to be 50% full by the time I'm done transferring everything next week.

Plex is my God now
downloading those 4K movies and shows then putting them on your plex, still use data vs your cap.
Connecting to someone's plex server to get their media still uses data.

I just bought the seagate 8TB drive for $139.
It's cheaper to buy hard drives, with the backup plan, and buy a new hard drive every 2 years, than pay for cloud service.
I use my hard drive for the arse load of movies i have on Plex, as well as all our pictures and videos. I have 3 of them right now. I figured if all 3 crash somehow, and aren't recoverable, then someone just didn't want me to hold onto those memories. two of them stay plugged into the computer, 1 backing up the other, and the other 1 i have stays in a safe, and i go and back that one up maybe once a month or so. I should be protected from theft, fire, and hard drive crashing.

A real pro would have a Netflix bluray subscription and makemkv. Not that I would do that or anything

why would "a real pro" be spending money?

Following... In the process of trying to figure out NAS solution of choice for the house myself...
I think max drive space with any degree backup is RAID5 (RAID6 probably the next best option but less capacity I believe), as it's replication essentially works by process of elimination. Biggest concern is if you lose 2+ drives at one time, you're SOL. Might be better off to try and sell the 3 - 3TB drives if they aren't heavily used and pick up an additional 8TB from this deal, then have 4x 8TB drives and determine what type of configuration you want to run with.

You do know that with IPtorrents membership you are required to seed to keep your membership which cuts even deeper into data cap?

I hate Data caps so I just pay $50 extra for unlimited and go nuts uploading and downloading

I'm alive, just been busy in recent months. Busy enough not to notice that high-capacity HDDs had come down in price so much.

I'm thinking about doing it too. I've been more conscious of my downloading since the cap was instated by torrenting more compressed movies, but I still end up with at least a $10 extra charge every month.

Since I have 4.5 TB of SSDs I stopped deleting installed games and I thought this would be enough but since I cut the cord and watch Netflix and Amazon prime I also pay the $50 and am done with it, I hate it but it is what it is.

They know it too. This way they're offsetting the revenue loss from cutting the cord.
