From the manufacturer, I agree...but not if it's at the users discretion(launchers, custom ROMs, etc.). There are some really cool/useful features out there that Google doesn't think of or just decides not to provide to the masses.

well sure. you're looking at someone who successfully booted android onto a windows mobile phone back in the day.

the key, as you pointed out, is that this at the CHOICE of the user themselves to add customizations.

all phones should start out as stock IMO and samsung should provide the 'samsung goodies' as a downloadable APK is someone wants to go that route.

but they never will. they are in the business of setting the phones up to be friendly to their economic ecosystem.

not just bloatware; samsung builds their own launcher & settings menu, etc.

but aside from the argument as to whether samsung is better at designing a phone's UI than google, the glaring issue is that their phones will always be woefully behind on updates and some (like security updates) may need to be updated ASAP and not put through some delay period that may or may not stretch into a year or more.

It does lots of things, which may or may not interest you.

Custom icon packs
Modify dock size/number of icons/scrolling
Modify desktop/folder/app drawer grid to allow more/fewer icons
Hide icon labels
Gestures

I actually haven't used it since having Pixel launcher, but it used to be a must have for me.

the icons packs interest me slightly. for some reason google decided to turn every one of their icons into a circle. so half of my icons have a white circle behind them now. I don't like it.

Just got my pixel this AM. Typing on it right now. I loved the icons, but could not stand that Google search bar. I downloaded the Nova launcher and got rid of that shite quickly.

What sucks is Nova doesn't have notification badges AT ALL. But I liked it so much I got the paid version for dynamic notification badges. Cool concept. So when I get texts, it shows the person's picture instead of a number or just a dot. You can of course change to a number or a dot if you want.

Glad I got the non XL. I'd honestly like the phone to be physically smaller but I think I'm in the minority.

And just some quick thoughts... Phone is noticeable snappier than any Samsung out of the box. Love the location of the finger print sensor. When Google says it's the fastest ever, they weren't lying. Location is much better than the S8.

Screen is great (subjective). Havent owned wired headphones for a couple years now, so I don't really miss the headphone jack. I do sort of miss the sd slot as I have a lot of music and pictures on a card that I transfer from phone to phone, so I'll have to get that moved over tomorrow.

Phone is very light. It is weird having the volume and power button on the same side, but I'm already getting used to it.

Just swapped my S8+ for a Note 8 and love the Note 8 it definitely is the best galaxy phone to date. I never have had issues with them slowing down and pretty much all phone batteries turn to crap after a year my wife's iPhone 7 lives on the charger. So you just gotta ask yourself if you would be happy with stock Android or do you like the extra stuff TW gives you. Me I like stock Android but kinda boring too iphoney for my taste, this note 8 is tits it's better than the S8 probably because of the added ram but snappy as hell.

YouTuber Jerry Rig Everything completely eviscerated the Pixel LINK

Things I didn't know until this video

-the phone is coated in plastic and is easily scratched. Also the lighter color phones can get stained.
-the power button is plastic. Any phone worth a damn nowadays has metal buttons.
-there's a weak point on the phone by the power button like the Nexus 6P that could crack

The Google has gone backwards from the original Pixel. The OG Pixel passed his tests with flying colors.

You can scratch the back where a case will be over it? Oh no. That dude needs to fix his nasty arse fingernails and skin before his next video.

I'll be curious to see his review of the actual flagship . The 2XL

LG made The 2XL
Htc made the 2 regular

Anyway I use a case so the scratch issues will be easily avoided. He also criticized the lack of headphone jack (which i agree) and wireless charging (which Is gimmicky). The bend test also held up okay. Not great but eh.

He's a hardware guy though. I buy google for the software. Hardware guys should stick with Samsung.

I went back to Nova because of the gestures.
