Anyone have any recs on non $40 cases? There's some decent looking ones on Amazon but then you'll see the same exact case right below with a different brand name. Looks sketchy af. I don't really know the company names and hard to trust reviews since the phone hasn't been out yet.

What are some gestures on Nova that the stock pixel launcher does not have?

I'm a spigen man. I usually get minimal cases though so i'm not sure if you like something a little thicker.

Agreed, nothing in that video was news or a surprise to me. The phone will hold up just fine. I guess if you are a person who doesn't like using cases I could see being a bit leery towards the hardware of the pixel.

Double tap, swipe up/down, two finger swipe... all tied to pretty much whatever you want. I used to set up one for app drawer, one for Google now, and one for expanding notifications.

gotcha. just thinking in my head for personal use swipe up does the app drawer on pixel launcher. its not customizable but i think that's what i'd want the gesture to do anyway. and squeeze will do google assistant. swipe right brings up google now cards. swipe down on fingerprint reader expands notifications.

double tap and a two finger swipe option would be nice though.

You can scratch the back where a case will be over it?

Actually you can when dust and other particles eventually get under it. That won't fare well with that plastic coating at all.

You should get an Essential phone. It's a stock android experience and the only phone using ceramic that you can currently buy in the US so it's solid as a brick.

Some of Google's decisions are mind boggling. The original Pixel is a much better built device than this one. The Pixel 2 is a step back, especially when you're paying such a premium

But if you have a case on it how would you see these scratches? Again most people use cases, pretty much a non issue.

No i don't think its 100% stock android. For starters it doesn't have the now listening option or google lens. At least i don't believe it does.

eta: you also dont get unlimited storage of noncompressed files. There are probably other differences that i'm not thinking of at the moment. I wasn't too impressed with the essential phone. It wasn't getting great reviews on its software.

the camera and processor are like ~2x as good though

plus, unlimited uncompressed photo storage is incredible

i also used a nexus 6p for 2.5 years and google gave me a full refund. so i trust that ill be reimbursed if something goes wrong.

my wet dream is Samsung hardware and stock android but for now this is the best option, for me, personally.

agreed. everyone is different but software is way more important to me than hardware. As long as the hardware is decent enough. None of the pixel 2xl hardware deficiencies are that big of a deal to me. I'm not worried about small scratches on the back of the phone because i use a case. I'm not worried that if you purposely try to bend the thing in half with all your might it might crack the siding. Or if you put a lighter for 15 consecutive seconds to it it will leave a spot.

I mean i get what he's doing there but i would guess for most people none of these things will every show up in the real world.

Now the strength of the glass is certainly important but the pixel was in line with samsung and apple there.

Yeah that will probably prevent me from getting that one. I'll probably just the very basic thin one for $11.

How slow would charging be if I bought USB c adapters instead of new cables?

what are you asking exactly? the pixels port is usb-c. And it comes with a usb-c cable.

You asking how it would charge if you had a regular usb-a cable that had a usb-c adapter on the end? I don't really know but i imagine it would just charge at usb-a rates.

I'd splurge for an extra usb-c cable if that's what you are trying to decide between. I bit the bullet awhile back and upgraded my office cable and car cable to usb-c. I don't like dealing with adapters.

Meaning I have a shite ton of USB to micro USB cables. Putting a micro to USB c adapter on that. Sounds like it's a slower cable.

Definitely. I'd just retire those things. Maybe keep them in a drawer somewhere for something down the road. But personally i wouldnt be investing in adapters. Just get fresh cables.
