This is getting ridiculous

quote:

After weeks of silence, Amazon's retail team informed Nest employees on a conference call late last year that it would not list any of the newer Nest products recently announced by the company, according to a person familiar with the call. The products in question include the latest Nest thermostat and the Nest Secure home security system, among others.

On that call, says the person, Amazon told Nest that the decision came from the top — and that it had nothing to do with the quality of Nest products, which had great reviews on Amazon. Nest employees who were on the call ended the discussion under the impression that the decision had come from Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, although Amazon's retail team didn't explicitly say that at any point, according to a person familiar with the call.

It cost a little more, but I switched to nVidia Shield for my home media platform. Much better performance, includes YouTube, which Amazon blocked on FireTV, and Google Assistant, which is much smarter than Echo, which I have found to be generally kind of dumb.

Amazon really doesn't want to play this game of chicken with Google. If it escalates to the highest level, Google tweaking the algorithm so Amazon loses free traffic from search results is probably more harmful than any benefit to Amazon that comes out of this feud. I know Google started this round of the fight first with yanking YouTube on Fire TV, but sometimes you just have to take your lumps and move on.

Incorrect. Amazon yanked Chromecast years ago and Google was pretty cool about it until they started pulling other Google owned products.

YouTube, which Amazon blocked on FireTV

YouTube works on fire tv

It wasn’t blocked, just not compatible for a little bit

You have to have the Firefox and YouTube app and it works just fine

Amazon is more a danger to Google search than vice versa.

This is likely because of Amazons acquisition of Ring

It’s because people go to Amazon more and more to search for merchandise instead of starting on Google.

I've always been a big Amazon supporter because they got to where they are by always putting the customer first. This feud with Google is really leaving a bad taste in my mouth because they seemingly don't care what their customers think about it. I know that Amazon (and any smart company) will always do what's best for the bottom line, but I think a lot of execs put the short-term bottom line ahead of the long-term without realizing that what's best for one isn't always best for the other. Amazon has always been a very-long-term thinking company, and this bullshite reeks of short-term profit pressure from shareholders, and I don't like it at all.

I have an Echo Dot and a FireTV, but I'm not buying any more Amazon products until they get their heads out of their asses.

Honestly, this makes me nervous as I'm in bed with both. I have:
-Google Wifi (3 puck)
-Nest Cams (and probably getting more)
-3 Amazon Echo pucks
-1 Amazon Echo Show

If they disconnect the echo show from displaying my nest cam(s), I'd be pissed. I'm not sure who's to blame but it's kinda silly. They both make a ton of money and they both integrate with each other.
Someone on both sides needs to grow up.

Don't care, not a nest person and use Roku or Raspberry Pi's for TV.

If anything, this could make products better. Real competition instead of fake friendships.

Amazon has lost me after this past Christmas season. I won't get into all the details, but their complete abandonment of customer service over a simple return is disappointing. 2 or 3 years ago they sent me the wrong product, and overnighted the correct one the minute I called and didn't even make me return the wrong one. This time, they wouldn't even process a return on a gift I received.

Doesn't help that the Echo Show my wife got is a piece of junk.

Really? I like ours and our kids even enjoy yelling commands at it.

What's wrong with yours? It's definitely a niche product but all of this crap is to be honest.
