We’ve been trying to reach agreement with Amazon to give consumers access to each other's products and services. But Amazon doesn't carry Google products like Chromecast and Google Home, doesn't make Prime Video available for Google Cast users, and last month stopped selling some of Nest's latest products. Given this lack of reciprocity, we are no longer supporting YouTube on Echo Show and FireTV. We hope we can reach an agreement to resolve these issues soon.”

And the only one who suffers is the consumer.

Ridiculous. Glad I moved to a Roku.

Sounds like Amazon is being bitch for starting the tension. Their anti-competitive actions are going to get them trouble soon.

Im gonna be pissed if I lose access to YouTube. That's 90% of what I watch on the firestick

This type of action is why I chose to move to Roku when I shifted over to 4K capable streaming. The lack of iTunes support didn't bother me which made the Roku Ultra an easy choice.

Yeah I have an Ultra too, perfect device.
The Roku IOS app does screen sharing fyi

I didn't know this. My only Roku is about 5 or 6 years old so it's pretty limiting. I can't even install the DirecTV now app. I may go ahead and replace it with a new Roku. I have 3 TVs with firetv/sticks and one with the old Roku.

Amazon going down in flames...ok, maybe not that bad, but certainly not the amazon it used to be
* shipping sucks 1/2 the time
* some items even ship directly from China and take weeks
* sales tax
* won't carry competitors products
They've gone from being totally consumer oriented to playing strategic games. the door is wide open for walmart and jet to eat at their market share

Never had a problem with Amazon shipping
Then don't buy items shipped directly from China; I don't.
Every online store that I run into now has sales tax. It's a government thing. Did they really have a choice?
I agree that this isn't a good thing but you can always buy the competitors products from those competitors. Do the competitors sell Amazon's products?

Yes they do. You can buy echos, echo dots, etc on google's express store.

That just seems dumb.
That's like walking into Gap and asking for a Gucci sweater.

I don't think comparing online stores like amazon and google that basically sell everything under the sun to brick and mortar specific stores is a very good analogy.

You may not like the trade offs as they grow, but they're failing all the way to the top.
I do think Amazon is making a strategic mistake by being so walled off. Alexa is their backdoor into everything, even google devices, but they need to make it work well on all devices.

True its not exactly the same as shopping on Amazon as Amazon is the king of that hill. But google also has software technology like youtube that was offered on amazon devices while Amazon was not reciprocating the gesture.
I think its petty both ways but its hard to fault google for keeping an open market and eventually getting frustrated when Amazon refused to do the same.

Well, sure, but when it comes to their own products, I do. I would find it weird now that Google sells their alexa type devices to ALSO included all the different Amazon Alexa devices and vice versa.

quote:Agree it's petty both ways, and I also agree that Amazon is the instigator and is mostly at fault. It's not a good look for Amazon to sell everything under the sun except for products from Google. Amazon owns tons of brands that sell everything from food to clothes to electronics, but they don't pull products from other brands that compete with them.
