What are y'all's opinions on mechanical keyboards? I've used buckling spring keyboards in the past but never one with high quality mechanical switches. I'm a programmer and I type all day long...so I decided to buy a quality keyboard to give my wrists a break.

I just bought a Red Dragon k550 mechanical keyboard.

YouTube

It supposedly has imitation Cherry MX brown switches. Seems like a really good keyboard for a cheap price.

I got one at Best Buy.. similar to the one you got. It lights up blue

I love it and my productivity is up with it, IMO.

I work in IT as well. I recently switched to Logitechs Ergo K860 keyboard and Ergo vertical mouse.

Not mechanical, but all pain gone within a day. I kid you not.

I've set those up for some of our employees. Did it take long to get used to the curve in the keyboard?

I use a gaming one, the Windows key is to right of the spacebar.

Gamdias Hermes Lite @Amazon only paid $46 a couple of Black Friday's ago.

Mechanical Red switches that definitely go clickety clack (can hear them without my hearing aids). Don't know about the included mouse, use a Logitech G602.

I somewhat recently got the Tecware Phantom RGB 104 Key with the Outemu blue switches. I like the tactile feedback and the clicky clacky of the blues, plus I don't work near others so that's not an issue. One reason I landed on this one was its ability to program the individual led backlights at this price point. It's nice being able to color code or highlight keys that I use for macros. Anyway, I've been really impressed with it, especially for the price.

You'll never want to go back...then again maybe I'm just just old school (ie: learned typing on a typewriter).

(And because sometimes you just want to pound a little harder. )eta: although you don't have to...

I have a logitech one at home that is a few years old. I like it but if get another one, I am going to look for quieter switches.

That's why I was looking for something with the brown switches. The blues seems too loud and the reds didn't seem tactile enough....so the browns are supposedly in the middle somewhere between blue and red.

The one I bought has the Oetemu purple switches which I believe are the equivalent of Cherry MX brown.

I upgraded to the Logitech G915 a couple months ago which is a mechanical, metal, & wireless keyboard and love it. I used to have a Razer mechanical but it started having issues in a few months.

The G915 is pricey, but my last keyboard was a cheaper wireless logitech that lasted me many years. It worked like a champ even after dropping it on hardwood floors (almost weekly) and alot of abuse from playing a ton of FPS/MMO games.

So hoping I get the same use of this one and I won't be dropping it anymore with my new office/gaming setup. I got a standing desk and thought my gaming experience would suffer but surprisingly it hasn't.

I had never heard of Leopold keyboards until you mentioned this. Those look nice. They even market them as "High End" mechanical keyboards.

One of these days I'm going to break down and get a nice keyboard. I think I'd like a mechanical but there are so many kinds I'd probably have to just get one of those sample panels to get a feel for what I'd want. I use my computer in the dark so I'd want backlit, but I really don't want rgb rainbow gore. Just a dim white is fine. Seems like most backlit are constant rainbows or bust, but maybe that's just their demo kind of setting.

Just to add to the conversation, I got a vertical mouse about a year ago and it has been a life changer. Took a week or so to get fully used to, but a "normal" mouse now feels so uncomfortable and unnatural when I use other people's computers.

Those things are absolutely terrible. Give me a nice palm grip gaming mouse any day of the week

I've also got a few wireless G613 keyboards, a 60% wireless keyboard and a keychron k2. The latter 2 are Gateron browns which are so much better than the logitech romer g switches

I think that is just to show that the keyboard has RGB. Although, I'm sure some roll with the rainbow puke. How much control you have over the LEDs is really dependant on which keyboard you get and varies from being able to pick from some presets all the way to being able to control each key's individual LED.
