The only thing really hideous is the deep notch. Not really sure why they thought a huge notch is cool.

I also am not a fan of the 4GB of RAM in a phone being released the later half of 2018. I'm worried about performance in the long term.

Google needs to step up their hardware game.

Yeah I'd just get the pixel 3 instead of the 3xl.

and the massive bezel at the bottom. Wtf

If they're trying to compete with iphonex they're doing it wrong.

They have front facing speakers. The iPhone X doesn't.

They will always have a bigger bezel because of that. I think it's a good tradeoff. Now, could they have reduced the size of the bezel a little still despite the speakers, maybe.

are stereo speakers more important than a bezel-less phone?

how much value is there in providing stereo in a form this tiny?

i don't think ive ever looked at a phone and said 'wow i can hear that sweet stereo separation!'

i'd rather have full glass on the front.

For me, absolutely. Why would you want 90% screen to bezel ratio at the expense of audio when you can can have 80% and better audio. To me it's a no brainer.

Yep. I really miss my HTC One M7. I love my OnePlus 5T though but the audio is kinda doo doo with bottom firing.

Google is just behind on implementing them, the new Galaxy S9/S9+/Note 9 have stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos built in for 3D sound all with the least amount bezels on a phone.

Samsung spent a year adding stereo sound to the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus

quote:

The audio on the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus isn’t your run-of-the-mill stereo setup, however: Samsung worked closely with AKG and Dolby Atmos to create an immersive audio experience that it believes is unmatched by any other smartphone. In the company’s upcoming blog post, it describes the work that went behind bringing an awesome audio experience to the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus.

After over a year of hard work, the results on the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus are pretty impressive. The Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus feature spectacular stereo sound that’s 1.4 times louder than their predecessors. And to top off the overall experience, Samsung partnered with Dolby Atmos on the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus to create stunning three-dimensional sound.

While Samsung may have taken its time to bring stereo sound to its Galaxy flagships, it was time well spent. The amazingly rich audio experience on the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus actually makes streaming on your phone a pleasure.

So you can have both in 2018 and going forward more and more, but Google is just behind and the Pixel 3 lacks any real innovation in hardware or design.

I rather the screen, I just rather use headphones when listening. Only time I use speakers is when I am showing a friend something or my alarm.

I don’t think either feature is a big one for selling phones though, just nice to have either.

That's great an all until you watch a youtube video and your hands cover up the speakers.

Behind on implementing what exactly? The pixel 2 has stereo front facing speakers.

We are really talking about front facing stereo speakers, not just stereo speakers.

Sorry thought that was obvious.

The question is are front facing speakers worth the extra bezel.

Stereo speakers with a front facing speaker is exactly what it has.

If you know how Dolby Atmos works it requires a bottom speaker for 3D sound.

Again, Google is just behind on any innovation on the hardware and design level.

The big boys like Samsung take a year and partner with other big boys like AKG and Dolby Atmos directly to deliver the best stereo sound on a smartphone.

right but in the real world when people watch things in landscape their hands will cover up that bottom speaker that is not front facing but rather down facing.

If they are holding the phone with one hand that is. Now if they are using two then I'm sure it would be free and clear of the hand.

Not really, I never cover mine, most people in the real world hold their phones with a pop socket these days.

More of a cop out excuse.

But alas, the point remains, stereo speakers with the best audio quality and no bezels has already been achieved. Others will copy that method as time goes on to eliminate big huge ugly bricks with huge bezels like the Pixel line.

This is not true of the 2xl. The bezels are certainly bigger than the Samsung line but gone are the days of giant bezels.

And the 2XL sold poorly, and now the 3XL is the biggest joke in the smartphone industry in years.

But at lest this hideous piece of shite has front facing speakers!
