both are mediocre at the moment.

both will benefit over time from being owned by massive corporations.

both will likely be around for awhile.

does that help?

What's mediocre about Nest? All my products work exactly as advertised.

So for Nest, that's $35 a month for the subscription? Ring is $10. Nest may be a better system, but definitely pricey.

I have 2 Ring pro doorbells and a total of 5 ring floodlight cameras between my primary residence and camp. Overall, I really like ring but they still have work to do to improve the software and notification system. I am still waiting for their alarm system to released. It keeps getting delayed for various reasons, but the integration with that should pretty pretty nice.

If needing 6 outdoor cameras, I would recommend a POE system for the cameras due to cost and reliability. JMO

I love my nest system even considering the cost. My ring door bell on the other hand is a piece of shite.

If you want top notch software to go with the hardware and don’t mind paying the price. Go with Nest.

Price doesn’t matter to me. I would just like something reliable.

So the general consensus here is that Nest is the more reputable brand?

Ring turns to shite if you don't get a monthly plan. Then after the last update it added a screensaver to my phone that drove me nuts. So I just deleted the app.

what kind of phone do you have? i've never seen a screensaver on my ring app but the constant "ring motion detected" nonsense alert drives me nuts.

i had no idea my house was such a 3 ring circus all day and night.

i guess with 4 kids and 4 animals a motion-detecting security camera was a pretty dumb idea in hindsight.

I think he means the problem with the app where it doesnt stay logged in and keeps popping up. Need to delete and reinstall to fix that.

Go to the Ring reddit and you'll see people bitching about Ring and talking about how Nest is better

Go to the Nest reddit and you'll see people bitching about Nest and talking about how Ring doesn't have these problems

I suspect that reflects CAD's point.

I have Ring and I'm glad we have it. It has weird problems regularly, but for the $$$ and energy I've invested into it (not very much) I don't think I can get a better solution at this point.

It's basically Google VS Amazon. I love my Nest ecosystem, I regret I ever bought my Ring doorbell two years ago. I'm replacing it with a Nest doorbell this week. I bought the ring doorbell before I was fully integrated with Google Home, and Nest. Whatever you do, don't mix and match ecosystems in the smart home.

I’m going with all Nest equipment. Seems like a better idea in my opinion.

I have the ring pro and it sucks. Video is great, but don't try to actually have a conversation with someone at your doorbell. They hear me perfect but I can't hear them hardly at all. Customer service did nothing. My internet is great. I have nest thermostat and a few outdoor nest cams. I'll be switching to Nest doorbell soon.
