Mounting your tv and hiding the cables

Does everyone here run their power cord through the wall disregarding code? Or does anyone go the route of getting one of the kits like a power bridge?

I thought ahead and made them put an outlet where it would be behind the TV.

In places where I didnt have an outlet in the same wall cavity, I have used these and they work great

If you have a power drill it's a 20 minute install.
Kit includes EVERY thing you need

I see it done both ways although disregarding code is more popular because it's cheaper.

I've been debating getting one of these:
Neuxla - that's exactly what I just bought, but off of Amazon. $40. I just couldn't convince myself to run through the wall.

I'm the cheapest of the cheap but you don't fish extension cords behind your walls. Romex is cheap btw.

In my experience reading your posts, you are indeed a cheap bastard. You buy a lot of random shite, but you somehow get it at really good prices

Yea $40 for this does hurt though when the other option is basically free. Especially when you have 2 TV's to do it with.

Do it the right way. You don't want ugly holes in your wall. You'll easily spend $40+ buying all the pieces separately and you'll make multiple trips to hardware store for things you missed.
I'm telling you that home depot kit is super easy to install. It even includes the drill bit that makes the big round hole in the wall and FOOLPROOF directions.
In addition to power I fished 3 HDMI, 1 Ethernet and 1 optical cable down that tube. I should be covered in all situations now.

I'll add another vote for the Home Depot kit. Really well put together and very easy to do if you have even a modicum of skill with a saw and a drill. The only thing I'll add is be mindful of the type of HDMI cables you would run. I bought some Monoprice ones and didn't think about it too much. Turns out they had one of those bulging ferrite cores that are supposed to reduce interference. That wouldn't fit through the opening of the faceplate. Had to grab some slimmer cables and all was well.
So you don't want one that looks like this:

If you are going this route, why buy the kit? Why not just cut a hole in the wall behind the tv and another adjacent to the outlet. Then, drop the power cord through the hole and out the other?
I'm not knocking your advice, just curious.

i splurged and bought some of those brand new 10ft 18gbps HDMI cables from monoprice (i think they were $4 instead of $3)

yes its overkill, but the tv is 4K and so for an extra $1 per cable, why not go ahead & get the latest & greatest?
i have a huge box of cables from monoprice. i feel like a black market dealer..all my friends know to call me when they buy a new tv and forget they need a toslink or hdmi or dvi to hdmi splitter, cat 5e, cat6, etc.
none of these cables costs more than $5 but its a massive headache to buy them locally or having to wait a week for an online order.

I use the power bridges. I prefer them.

That's the point of the thread Chappy. You shouldn't run a power cord behind your wall. It's against code. So they make these kits. Plenty of people do just run the power cord, but its not the "correct" way to do things. I just like to minimize my risk of fire and also insurance issues if there is fire.

Good tip OldManRiver
bbap - I'm wondering what the difference is between power bridge and the home depot version (and a few others) other than $40

Install an outlet behind your TV if you're a handy man. That's what we did and it is awesome.

Probably not much. Yeah i paid about $60 for mine and it was really nice quality. But no doubt you can do the same thing for cheaper.

What does this really help outside of being able to power TV? You still have to run cables somewhere.

Ah, I didn't know that. Thanks
