M2 Macbook Air

Placed a pre-order earlier in the month which just got delivered over the weekend. Got the midnight (navy blue) 256GB 16GB ram model. Replacing a 2014 Air.
What a difference eight years make. M2 chip is blazing fast for my needs. This new form factor (similar to the newer Pro models) are also a big upgrade from my chunky bezel 14' Air. I thought about upgrading last year when the new Pro's came out but couldn't swallow the 2k price tag.
Interested to hear any other thoughts on the M2.

Got a M1 last year for $899 and couldn’t believe the speed. Great PC.

I upgraded to 16. With education discount came out to $1,279. They also gave me a $150 GC so truly $1,129. Yes more expensive than the M1 ($899) but far cheaper than the new Pros ($1849-ish). Hoping this computer lasts me as long as my old Air did. Hence why I did the RAM upgrade.

The M2 air looks great. I like the midnight blue color. I ordered the 14" m1 Pro last night though. It was discounted a little at best buy. I guess there is a 14/16 M2 pro coming later in the year. The air probably would have done 95% of what I needed but the 14" pro has dual monitor capability and that is what I use at work so I went with it. After bumping the RAM in the Air I believe it was going to be $1500. The discounted m1 pro was $1750.
I try to not like Apple, but after trying 3 other windows laptops the last few years - I haven't found anything even close to the macbooks.

The M series macbooks blow the doors off of anything pc has to offer for speed plus battery life. I had to switch to a Lenovo for work but I'd routinely use it 12 hours and have 30 percent battery.

Trying to decide for my wife whether to get the M1 Chip or the M2. She probably only needs the M1, but its also older technology. Our last Mac Air's have lasted nearly 10 years.
She is going back to school and will be using for mainly that.

The two machines are really close in regular tasks. The M2 will have a little better brightness than the M1. The base level storage of the M2 (256 GB SSD) is significantly slower than the M1 though. Again, for regular day to day tasks it's not a dealbreaker, but if you use large files on a daily basis - it could be.
It just depends on how much you want to spend.
IMO, get the 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD version of the M2.
If she's really going to keep the machine for 10 years, you might consider getting the 1 or 2 TB drive. Yes, it's more money, but for someone that keeps a machine that long - it's a no brainer.

If you're planning to keep the computer for awhile I would go with the M2. I upgraded from a 2014 Air which truthfully didn't have any issues. It was just getting a bit long in the tooth spec wise and the battery needed a replacement after 8 years.
Ive had my M2 for almost two weeks now and it's awesome. I think the design, screen, and slightly faster chip are worth the $200 upgrade from the M1. But either will be a huge upgrade from a ten year old computer.

I came very close to buying one of these yesterday. Tell me why I should buy a Mac Laptop? I’ve got an iPad, do I need one? I currently do not have a computer at home and I keep telling myself I need to get another one.

What do you use your iPad for? I also have a 2017 iPad Pro but TBH I won't be upgrading to another one. I plan to use this M2 for all my major computing tasks going forward. The iPad is a great machine but the OS has made it too limiting.

I use it fairly often. I have the 11” Pro. Aside from the obvious stuff, I use it at work for pdfs and documents. Remote into my desktop computer, which is cumbersome but made much better with the trackpad. I actually use the pencil a lot more than I thought I would. I annotate pdfs quite a lot.
I’ve always had a computer, and there are times when I wish I had one. Yes the keyboard is nice and makes documents much easier, but it’s still a tiny one even on the 12” iPad. Having a full size keyboard would definitely be a plus. I’ve tried messing with photos on the iPad but it just does okay. You aren’t doing any serious editing.
The other thing is I have always been a PC guy. I suppose having all apple stuff wouldn’t be that big of a transition.

What was your previous machine? It's time to replace my 2013 Macbook Pro (15 inch) and I figure I'll do the M1 Pro, not sure if I'll do the 14 or 16.

14" pro here. I couldn't wait for the new airs to come out and Best Buy had good offers. Love the 14" pro. Battery is insane
