I knew it was coming,
, but got lazy yesterday when I should have ordered it. Oh well, not much we can do about it.

Good news
It is. From the state down to the business owner, especially retail.

I agree. I've never made a purchase on Amazon solely to avoid taxes. Paying taxes is no reason for me to avoid Amazon and I think it only fair to the state and especially retail shops.

Yep. I should have ordered this damn thing yesterday as one last hurrah.

I had 3 or 4 things I was looking at and decided to order them all yesterday. Taxes won't make me avoid Amazon but hey saving every little bit helps.

I won't avoid it but best buy will see an increase in sales. I'll get it now and the price match. Why would I do Amazon?

I've had prime for 3 years now. I don't think I'll be renewing it this year. I don't really take advantage of the video and music perks, mainly just the 2 day shipping and that my prime orders would 99% of the time ship via FedEx or ups rather than the horrible post office. Even with that, you had to order by Wed morning to get it delivered by Fri, otherwise it was delivered Mon or Tues. The main thing I love about Amazon is not so much the convenience of not going to the store, but more so the fact that I can find oddball stuff on Amazon. I bought a lot of weird things on a whim while looking at the lightning deals. I'll buy less of that now, as the tax will effect it being such a great deal.
I'm not trying to avoid paying taxes, well maybe a little ;) , but I don't think we should if the item isn't coming from a warehouse in my state. That's how it works for every other online seller, what makes Amazon exempt from that rule? If I thought for a second the money generated would go to worthwhile causes, I'd feel better about it, but come on, this is Louisiana we're talking about.

I wanted to add, that local business (don't mean national) have not been able to compete with Amazon and part of that was taxes. Why go to the local camera store and buy a $1000 camera when you can save $100 in taxes and buy it at Amazon.
Some people will go into the store, talk about the product, get service and then walk out and buy it on the internet.

I agree with that, but, when it came to big purchases I actually felt more at ease buying from Amazon than a mom and pop because if for whatever reason I wasn't happy or the product had issues, Amazon would take it back 99% of the time without blinking. I've returned lots of stuff to Amazon over the years without ever getting rejected. The mom and pops lots of times will just direct you to the manufacturer or charge a restock fee for returns. I know it's not their fault and something they have to do to not lose money, but it's still a fact.

Despite the tax, home delivery is a good alternative to driving around BR.

Use tax on mail order purchases is shite legislation and a pure money grab.
It's too late as the laws are in place but F the State of LA and their use tax.
A package travels on a truck from out of state, on roads that are paid for via the fuel tax. The freight company pays tax on their profits. The truck that hauls the freight was taxed upon purchase.
Why the hell does the state of LA deserve a cut on top of all that? Besides, "it's the law"?

Andy ..
Don't you give a shite about to economic growth at the city level?
Also, its not just LA, these are what states are being taxed:
bout Sales Tax
Items sold on Amazon.com and shipped to certain states may be subject to tax.
Items sold by Amazon.com LLC, or its subsidiaries, and shipped to destinations in the following states are subject to tax:
Alabama Georgia Maryland New York Texas
Arizona Illinois Massachusetts North Carolina Utah
California Iowa Michigan North Dakota Virginia
Colorado Indiana Minnesota Ohio Washington
Connecticut Kansas Nebraska Pennsylvania West Virginia
District of Columbia Kentucky Nevada South Carolina Wisconsin
Florida Louisiana New Jersey Tennessee
This is a good article:

It's not like LA is the only state to do this, but as broke and corrupt as this state is, top to bottom, I really hope that even half of the new revenue is used appropriately.
I won't stop using Amazon, though. My primary reason for using Amazon has always been to avoid going to the store, while also not having to wait a week for something to arrive. Amazon is still better than shopping locally for most things, as long as you don't need the service/expertise in store. And honestly, the internet does a better job of helping me make an informed purchase decision than most in-store sales people.

I always prefer USPS because the UPS truck doesn't make it around here until late afternoon on a good day, but I almost always get my mail before noon. FedEx is good, too, but maybe 1 out of 20 orders will be shipped FedEx. Also, there have been many occasions where I order something Friday evening, free 2-day shipping, and it arrives via USPS on Sunday. Definitely varies by item, though. Sometimes they really do stretch the definition of 2-day shipping.

Look I'm not going to argue with what the law is.
But I don't agree with giving our government (at any level, local, city, state, or federal) any more money to mismanage.
If you want to speak about Baton Rouge and LA specifically our government leaders have proven they cannot even manage what they are given now. So the solution is to give them more? So they can and it out to the film industry? So they can renege on the promises they made in TOPS? So they can increase property tax citywide?
For the last 20 years, families and households have had to learn to do more, with less. Our government is the exact opposite, they do less with more.

I have had all kinds of items delivered on Saturday and Sunday with Amazon Prime.

I never used Amazon because it was tax free. I use it because it has a better selection and the prices are better.
Even with tax, the 30 lb bags of dog food I buy are still $15-20 cheaper.

I'll still use Amazon. Even if it costs a few more dollars, it's still cheaper, you get what you want, you can research your purchase from your couch, delivered to your home, and you can send it back if you don't like it.
Hell, I just look at it like a delivery fee to save me an hour+ round trip to get whatever I was going to get locally anyway.
