Sir are you sure you want to cancel? If you do you will lose out on your preferential pricing you currently have.....

I didn't like the guide on a tv..its very 1-100ish, no way for favorites, sorting, etc....I just use a combination of streaming now, we really don't watch live tv anyway

You can edit the YTTV guide however you want it to be. You can remove channels from showing completely. You can create any order you want. You can sort by your most watched channels and you can sort alphabetically.

The catch is you need to edit the guide using a PC browser or the YTTV app on your phone.

Is DirecTV losing the NFL access for 2023?

Is it possible to get an actual receive for some of the streaming services? What I've noticed is how much worse DVR functions are if you don't have a physical box. That's why I haven't cut the cord yet.

I believe Youtube just won the NFL direct ticket bid, not sure on what all it entails.

With direcTV stream you can get an osprey streaming box that operates exactly like a DirecTV receiver. It even allows you to punch in channel numbers directly like regular satellite TV.

As for the streaming services DVRs, what exactly do you not like about them?

Well, you can watch TV without editing the guide. That might be part of the issue with your post.

Also, you don't have to use a PC to edit the guide. You can use a phone or tablet with the app.

Is it inconvenient? Sure but I have only edited my guide once in 2 years and that was when I first started using the service. I don't see the need to complain about something that happened once in 2 years and likely will never happen again.

I continue to be astounded by people that would rather do fairly complicated operations on a phone rather than on a real computer with a real keyboard.

What part of doing something on a five inch screen with a tiny arse keyboard did you think was going to be user friendly, over doing something on a laptop or a 32" monitor??

To be fair the drag and drop UI they've used for arranging channels sucks on all devices including desktop. It's intuitive, but takes a long time to put a channel where you want it. There are far slicker and faster UI elements to use for ordering lists that are just as intuitive.

Thankfully it's not something you have to do often.

I hate, hate, hate, being forced into mobile apps to do things. I don't want to schedule a haircut, or a movie, or anything other than an Uber, on my phone. Seriously, who actually shops for groceries from their H-E-B app? I need 62 items, I'm going to look for them on this tiny arse screen.

This reminds me of certain sites that won't let you cut and paste information. Do ya think that making me type in my bank routing number by hand twice somehow improves accuracy over cutting and pasting it directly from the USAA website?

UX has taken a big dive in the last five years.

How is that different than me just having DTV?

I didn't know they have them. It's usually just like I'm at someone else's house and they have Hulu TV or Youtube TV or whatever, and it's just with their TV or something. There's buffering and crap like that when they rewind. With DTV, the action is instantaneous.

About a month ago Directv added a new streaming app that pretty much gives you Directv Stream for free to satellite custmers. So you really only need one Dirctv box and can stream every channel in your package using the app. If you have a storm that messes up the sat signal you switch over to streaming. I live in MS and used the app in Gulf Shores a few days ago and could watch all my channels inc local MS channels in Alabama. Not sure if there is limited number of streams at once.

This has been a great addition to the DTV bundle. Unfortunately I will always have live cable due to my wife being a moron when it comes to technology. I have been able to download the app and stream all directv channels on my TVs that don't have a receiver. The only issue I have been having is the buffering, not sure if it's just me or if everyone sees this problem. I don't have any problems with any other streaming services, just DTV app.

I have had no buffering using the Dirctv streaming app using Rokus in both MS and AL

Um....not much. Some key differences are:

1) You can use as many of the boxes as you want and pay no more $/month. The limit is like 20 streams/devices at once. With satellite receivers you pay for each one.
2) You can take a box with you anywhere you want and get full DirecTV stream operation. You can't really take a DirecTV receiver with you.
3) No need for DECA or ethernet to get whole-home DVR functionality.

I can only comment about DirecTV stream, YoutubeTV and SlingTV DVRs but they all work fairly well with minor differences. Trying to pause and rewind live TV can often create a very short buffering situation but almost all of them have no buffering issues when playing content from the DVR.

The only DVR thing I missed when I left DirecTV was that I could just hit a FF button on the remote and watch the video as it FF'd and see when I hit the end of commercials. The streaming DVRs can only skip forward by 15 or 30sec at a time.

One exception to this is Philo. Philo's DVR has one-button commercial skip for DVR content and it is FANTASTIC!

Whaaat? The boxes were $7 a month, each, and I had five TVs on the inside of my inside of my house alone. Paying receiver rental fees for 20 years of my life was infuriating. You alluded to this in #1, but didn't emphasize it enough.

I think the differences the person was asking about were how it functioned compared to traditional satellite boxes. At least that is how I interpreted it.

I guess. I can use the DTV app on my phone and cast to a TV, though. How is what you are saying really different?

I'm not sure what this means. I have whole home internet and I use it. How is that a problem?

Yeah, this is the kind of stuff I'm talking about. Jumping around inside a show with a real DVR is, to me, night and day different than if it's purely streaming. Hell, I'm still routinely annoyed at the various streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, etc.) and how poorly their intra-program navigations are. HBO Max is the worst.

How is using your receiver different than using the app? It is the same difference for your app vs a streaming box. If the app was so great, you'd get rid of your receivers at home, save the $ and just use the app to stream from your phone to a TV, right? You apparently dont do that. Why not?

Whole home internet is not related to whole home DVR.

You should really just stick to satellite.
