I was browsing slickdeals, came across a walmart computer clearance thread. They apparently are blowing things out to get ready for Black Friday.

Anyway, I ended up finding this:

CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR3800WST w/ Intel i7-8700, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, 16GB Memory, 240GB SSD, 1TB HD
LINK

Website still has $883 for online purchase, but certain stores had them listed on clearance for $349 (per brickseek). LINK

Well, sure enough, most of the stores said they were out, but I did find one (all I really need ), bought it.
New in box, still sealed up etc, not a return or demo. It boots and I'm typing on it now.

I know, conventional wisdom says build your own, it's cheaper with better parts.
But for $350, I don't think I can do that; I don't think I could get the graphics card and RAM sticks alone for that, let alone the rest (and a W10 license for the OS).

Anyone have any experience with these, or an opinion on it?
I don't mean "is it worth $900" as listed online, I mean is it worth $350?
Thanks

I've never purchased any machines or peripherals besides maybe a keyboard/rat combo from Wallyworld. But for $350 you probably did pretty good, it really depends on what you expect from it, obviously not for the serious gamer, but it should run pretty smoothly for most everything else Lkkely the biggest issue it faces is having Windows installed, however there are many cures for that.

Basing off used prices...

CPU - $225
Mobo - $60 (I imagine they use the bottom of the barrel)
RAM - $50
Video Card - $120
SSD - $30
HDD - $30

So just those alone are worth more than $500

$900? Not really.

$350? Absolutely.

Definitely worth $350

Even if you're a die-hard DIY type this wouldn't be a bad base PC to start with and upgrade into your own real DIY rig over time (although you would probably lose activation on the license at some point)

Biggest problem is that the OP found the needle in the haystack.

I almost guarantee no one else will find one of these at their local walmarts

yeah, maybe a little better specs than one of those.

I'm not a big gamer (anymore), but I still mess around with 3D graphics and use Iray at times. Also do some photography as a hobby, do some raw processing. So I had been building stuff in the past, had been able to make my older pc last quite awhile. Like, over a decade, with what at one time had been quite a horse of a system for the time. I think my main HD is beginning to go out on that, maybe mobo too. I figured it was time to let it expire gracefully and get a new configuration, and checked into this just for giggles before going to newegg and mwave (if that's still even open).

Hell, it's not a bad deal if you can find the walmart clearance stuff; I had seen where they had purged some 65" LG tvs for about $200 to some lucky souls. So I checked into it.

Go to Slickdeals, check in the Hot Deals in the forums, look up the 'walmart PC clearance megathread'.
LINK

Those prices are not the current, they are now lower. Use the brickseek links to check for local on those, and if it says "limited quantity" somewhere nearby, go up and ask. Have that link up on your phone, and show them the SKU you want (if they have it, I guarantee it's in the back).
I'm in BR, and got the desktop at the Cortana store. It's kinda common sense:
it's a big Walmart in a hood area, ain't nobody buying electronics for over $1K in there. But if it's listed, they had the stock, and they aren't advertising the drops in price. The manager has to open the cage in the back to check, and they don't know the price until they scan it.
This price surprised the shite out of the gal that got mine for me.

There's a few laptops I'm sorta curious about, didn't look for them. There's an HP Pavillion gamer rig, it lists for about $800, I got it for my son a couple years ago for about 600 on a deal from HP. The price on the link page says $399 for reference. The brickseek link shows "limited stock" at about 8 places nearby, for $249.

The HP Omen, list at over $1200, slickdeals link page says 599, brickseek says $399, and again lists 5-6 stores with "limited" stock. Specs on that are
HP Omen Gaming Laptop 15.6" Full HD, Intel Core i7-8750H, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Graphics, 1TB HDD + 256GB SSD, 16GB SDRAM

For $399, if you're even thinking of a laptop (beyond a chromebook of course), that sounds like it's worth the legwork to go pester the guy at the electronics desk to go check in the back.
Like I said, best plan might be to pick a walmart in a rough area where you don't think people will be dropping large sums of cash, go in during a quiet period, and get them to check.

The desktop, I was 1 for 4 on stores, two said they didn't have any left, 1 place said they had some but rang up at full price, and Cortana said "do you want a 2 yr replacement warranty for $30 with that?" Why, yes please. Thank you

Windows 10 is a funny thing with that; 7 and prior versions used to be pretty uptight about upgrades. 10 seems a LOT looser.

I set up a desktop for my son, was a Celeron running 7. We did the free upgrade to 10, and swapped out the CPU to an i7, doubled the ram, swapped the HD, and then SWAPPED THE MOTHERBOARD. Stayed the same generation to keep the cpu, and put in, I want to say it was something comparable to this one.
Windows never protested, let us basically migrate from a total budget system to something he enjoys gaming on.
7 never let me change mb's.

Primary desktop for an older adult (me ), really just surf a lot of time, do plan to install Capture One And DXO (and some other RAW processors for digital photos), Gimp, etc.
Older office suite (2007, I like not having to sign into cloud for that.
Some 3D software, going to use IRay and LUX for rendering.

not really planning to game much on it, we'll see if NCAA Football comes back out, that might change things

I trust it should run what I need, we'll see after migration.

It seems to run cool and quiet for now, stays in the 30's for temp at the various sensors. We'll see what happens on a render. At worst case, I have the other box with several other fans, I might see if I can put some more in, or worst case scenario move into the other box and go from there.

How do you deal with Walmart employees who don’t know what their gun actually does and doesn’t see the product immediately in front of them?

Chalk it up as a loss and move on. That's why I want to know where OP got his since it looks like he might be in BR, which has the worst walmarts on earth

That's the location to get all the good tech clearance items from. I remember when the Razer mechanical keyboards went on sale for like $15 and the deathadder mice were $10. Bought 3-4 of each

The workers there are worthless though
