Yes, for it’s price. But really depends on your home IMO.

Adequate for what? As a video door bell? Yes. There are actually cheaper options available. Just search Amazon for video doorbell.

I’m gonna get it soon. Seems to suit my basic needs. I just wish the kits were customizable. I have dogs,I don’t need motion sensors. I guess I could one in the garage.

I have all ring and still have an alarm.com system installed. So two systems. I prefer the ring but prefer the sensors of the alarm.com.
Alarm.com is too closed in and doesn't work as well with other systems. It does work but not at the same level as ring. Alexa works extremely well with ring.

One of the things I hate about ring is it doesn’t integrate with anything but amazon.

Why you want to record to a local server....it's 3 bucks a month to record unlimited to the cloud.....I'm sure the the Vermont State patrol salary covers that

Also, cost isn't the only factor. For me, personally, I already have security cameras that record locally, and I would really like to be able to feed my doorbell video into the same system. It's my video and I like to have total control over it.
And yeah, it's "only" 3 bucks, but it's still yet another bill. Who would have thought ten years ago that we'd be getting a bill for the fricking doorbell? All of these little insignificant bills add up to a lot.

I've had for a year and it's great for my needs. Alarm service and cloud storage for doorbell and camera are $100/year if you pay upfront.

I got rid of my Ring because one of them sits in direct sunlight for part of the day. After discussing with some neighbors that also used to have Ring, if you have it in a place with direct sunlight you should expect it to last about 1-2 years.

Good to know. My house is on a hill facing due West so the front doors get hammered mid-afternoon to sunset.

I agree, I wish you had control over the video stream. It would be nice to pull that video feed into other systems or be able to store it locally with continuous recording. It would be nice to have the cameras still operational if the ISP goes down too.
But it is what it is, a simple solution and it’s only $3 a month lol. I pay $6 buck a month for two cameras. It’s only 6 bucks a month. If there were a competitor out there with a camera light combo like Ring that is ONVIF I’d take down my Rings tomorrow.
My food light sits in direct sunlight all day. I’ve had zero problems but it’s only been up about 6 months. I put the first generation Ring on my parents house, which faces West, about 4 years ago. The sun beats down on it every afternoon and I’ve had zero issues.

I've been keeping an eye on the Pine64 Cube. Not sure when it will be available, but the target price is $20 and I will damn sure pick up a few at that price.

I think y'all are confusing the doorbell and alarm system

How did this turn into a conversation about the doorbell? He asked about the alarm system. I have it, it’s more than adequate.
