I switched last year, and my wife and kids are still on Apple products. They all HATE me for switching. Group texts don't really work well in Hangouts when the other participants are on iMessage. That doesn't bother me as I hate group texts, but it really bothers my wife as she thinks I'm ignoring the kids, when in actuality I never get any of the texts. Not sure where the breakdown occurs, but my guess is on Apple's end.

I've never been able to get the Face Time equivalent to work right either. I'm kind of dumb with technology though, or at least really impatient. If it doesn't initially work like I want it to, I give up.

I've never seen the icon that shows up when people are responding to your text. I probably don't have something set up, but I use Hangouts exclusively for texting and I've never seen it.

Just my .02 cents. None of the above really bothers me other than listening to the wife and kids complain every now and then. I think if I was to set up a Hangouts account for them it would solve those issues, but that seems pointless.

Both users have to use Hangouts for this to work, just like both have to use iMessage.

That's what I assumed and meant to add that.

And that's the dirty little secret nobody is saying. For all of that to work like you want, the Apple users need to install Hangouts on their phone and use that app when communicating with you, and the native Text app in their iPhone/iPad with everyone else. Good luck getting your wife and kids to do that.

There only dirty little secret is apple wont make their apps cross-platform.

All you have to do is install hangouts one time on the iPhone and then if you video-call that person from your Android they will get a hangouts notification to answer it.

How hard is that?

I honestly don't care too much for the hangouts app for SMS, mostly because I see no customization options. I am used to Textra where I can customize everything, and the default look of hangouts is ugly.

I know, but nobody has really told OP that yet. Almost all the answers were yep, Android can do all that! Which it can, but it requires the Apple users to install the Hangouts app.

Pretty hard for a tech challenged wife, a 14 year old son, and a 9 year old daughter that all married to their Apple products.

I hate the proprietary connector Apple uses for their chargers. With Android, virtually any micro USB cable laying around the house will charge a phone/tablet.

What is the difference between Google Nexus 6P (assuming this is the latest phone) and HTC Google Nexus phone (that is scheduled to be released)?

Does Google Nexus 6P get faster software updates since it is a Google exclusive?

There's nothing wrong with Samsung products. TouchWiz isn't the system drain it used to be.

I've had the S4 and now have the Note 5. This will be my last samsung phone.

What are you talking about? I saw that specifically stated twice on page 1.

Hangouts app does both of these but they will need Google accounts and Hangouts installed on their devices also.

quote:

oh, yep. as long as you're using hangouts (just like imessage) but not if they're replying with SMS. exact same thing, three dots shows they're typing.

So what does that have to do with the Android platform?

It soundslike you are a woman and can't make a choice?

Do you have to be led to phone and told which to buy?

I meant this as a positive about Android, actually, but go ahead and be dumb.

Samsung was shitty up to the S5. But this time it's different? I'm tired of giving Samsung a chance. They suck.

It is.

It's apples way of keeping you locked in their ecosystem with their imessage bullshite. Went through the same thing when I switched to Android

The first Samsung I've had is my current S6

Reason I got it was for the lifeproof case. Only issue I've had with it is overheating once in a blue moon.

Not that it matters but I had stopped using Iphone's about 4 years ago due to screen size on the Iphone and had been using Android since. I put up with a lot of issues with Android phones like performance and apps not as good as the IOS counterpart.

My last Android phone was an Samsung 6s edge and it sucked. I finally dumped it and went to a iphone 6s+ and I have not seen a better phone.
