iPhone user to Android?

Be gentle. I'm behind on the times.
Plan to switch from iPhone 6 Plus to an Android device.
1. Do Androids offer an "Find my iPhone" feature built-in or native to operating system?
2. Do Android phones offer the ... when a person is responding with a text message (similar to iPhone messaging), except in this case, Android to Android? Or is there an aftermarket app that covers this?
3. Wife has an iPhone. Kids have iPads. FaceTime, while we don't use it often, it has been nice when needed. Is there a "FaceTime" equivalent app for Android that allows multi-platforms?
Lastly, thoughts on HTC 10? How does it compare to Samsung 7? Or should I hold out for an even newer version of phone expected later this year (just speculating as I type)?

honestly i'd look at getting a pure google phone like a nexus 6p. what network are you on? is it partially subsidized?

Specifically, why?
Is it because of their software installed on phones?

When an iPhone user replies to my text message (iMessage), I can tell when they are typing or replying back as my phone will indicate a bubble with ...
Do Android phones offer this feature?

I'll look into this phone. Is this the latest and greatest Nexus phone? Phone will be subsidized as I am on an old plan with Sprint and as long as I sign a 2 year agreement (been with them for 9 years), I'll get the phone at a significantly reduced price (around $300.00).

Yes. If you are logged into your google account, just search, "find my android".

Hangouts app does both of these but they will need Google accounts and Hangouts installed on their devices also.

oh, yep. as long as you're using hangouts (just like imessage) but not if they're replying with SMS.
exact same thing, three dots shows they're typing.

So hangouts is essentially a text message program and FaceTime application built into one?
For lack of a better description?

and more (at least unless/until google fricks it up)
you have the option to send sms, google voice sms or hangout from the app as well as 'facetime' or use it as a phone dialer.
its the swiss-army messenger app on google.
it always remembers how the last text/hangouts came in from someone and thats the default to respond but you can change it before sending a reply if you choose.

I guess Hangouts does this, but I didn't know because I don't use it.

Google Hangouts. Comes stock.

HTC has not been a great manufacturer as of late, but Samsung loads TONS of bloatware and their shitty Touchwiz overlay on top of Android. If you want a pure Android experience without bloatware and without other companies touching your operating system, you're best served going with a Google Nexus device, like a Nexus 6P.

He's talking about this feature, the bubbles appearing when engaged in a text.

Just curious. Your family seems be into Apple products. Why are you making the switch? There will be a transition/learning curve in going from an iPhone to a Android and vice versus. Unless you are just ready for a new experience, I'm not sure there's a compelling reason to switch other than cost/benefit IMO. My main reason for sticking with Android is that LG still makes phones (I have the G4) in which the user can replace the battery and swap in/out SD cards. Regardless, good luck with your choice.

There's nothing wrong with Samsung products. TouchWiz isn't the system drain it used to be.

There are shite tons of text apps. I just use the stock Android text app. There is no guilded cage - I can text to whomever, even email addresses.

Skype is the best way to go here, overall. I'm sure there are others. I'm actually not sure what the best Android to Apple option is - because of Apple's bullshite gilded cage.

I'm all Motorola for many years. My son says there's little difference between HTC and Samsung - he seems to change phones about every year, and he's had about 1 of each brand. He's in the tech field.

The worst thing about the Android platform is the overwhelming choice of flagship phones in a fairly wide range of prices, and the fear of buyer's remorse.
Posted on 8/1/16 at 8:46 pm to ILikeLSUToo
So what does that have to do with the Android platform?
It soundslike you are a woman and can't make a choice?
Do you have to be led to phone and told which to buy?

I've had a iPhone 5, a Samsung Galaxy S3, a Motorola Nexus 6, and now I have the Huawei 6P.
The Galaxy was just an overall shitty phone. Terrible user experience, felt cheap, and fell apart.
I loved the Motorola Nexus, but it just quit working on me and I didnt feel like putting money into it, but it was over 2 years old, and I never had much complaint about.
I just got the Huawei 6P and am enjoying it. I like the aluminum framing.
I may or may not get the HTC Sailfish when it comes out. I would have gotten the new Motorola flagship and had no qualms about to,but the 6P was a little more where I wanted to be on price.
