I went to a surprise birthday party last night at an underground speakeasy bar.. I loved it because it's so far down in a basement that nobody's cellphone had a signal - meaning everybody was socializing and dancing and having a good time instead of their nose in their phones all night

My buddy has Tmobile (I think) and he recently changed his service to starlink and out of about 60 people at the party, his phone was the only one that had solid service

I know that this isn't a scientific test or anything but I just thought it was interesting that all of us who had either verizon, at&t, etc all had dead phones and he was the only one that had starlink and his phone was still flying

I just thought that this observation would interest those who are thinking about switching to starlink

Are you saying his phone service is starlink? Or he has starlink at home and the place y'all were at happened to have it?

They offer a starlink upgrade for his internet provider for his cell phone instead of the phone company's internet. I'm almost certain it was T-Mobile

Yes, T-Mobile has partnered with Starlink to get satellite internet service when you are in remote areas. I've used it a few times on camping trips to send out texts. The phone will alert you to switch to satellite and even tell you which way to point it to the sky. Not sure how well it would work inside a building since it always tells me to have a clear view of the sky. Texts would go out fine, but pics or videos were hit or miss. And the internet piece of it was usually slow, but that may have been where I was.

When I was on a free trial of starlink backup to my T-Mobile service a couple years ago I could get Starlink service inside our hunting camp with the phone placed next to a window. Somehow.

Starlink seems to be no different than most ISPs in that some people love it and others hate it.

I just helped out a friend who has it and the service is terrible; they've been out twice to recalibrate and it is still atrocious. There's supposed to be fiber running down their road soon and they cannot wait to be rid of it.

Another friend has it and loves it; can actually stream despite being out in the boonies of Virginia.

T-Mobile Info
This link says you don't have to be on T-Mobile to get the service.
