bought an Apple Imac and new to the Apple way of doing things. I like it but I wish it had Office. How can I get that or is there a similar app or software that's just as good for Apple products?

You can get Apple's version of the Office apps for free from the App Store. I would try these first and see if they do what you need them to do.
Keynote (Powerpoint)
Pages (Word)
Numbers (Excel)

Does your employer use Office365? If so you should be able to download Office apps for free.

buy it in the app store on your desktop.

The Google drive products work ok, but your best bet if you use Office for work is to buy the "at home" license, entire suite for $15

Why not just the free online versions? I think you have to sign up for an Outlook email. I have Word, Excel, PP, One Drive on any computer anywhere.

Try Apples apps first, and try Libre Office next. Office for the Mac has always looked and felt different from the Windows version so you aren't going to have the same experience you are used to even if you get the official MS product.

Be prepared that Mac versions will be missing some features compared to Windows. I run VirtualBox on mine for Window-specific software, and sometimes have to use Windows version of Office. Example: Power Query in Excel only works in Windows version.

You can buy Office (real Office) for the Mac. Unless you're doing really fancy things with it you won't notice any difference.
Or you can get the web-only versions. Slightly less capable but still more than enough for most people, and completely free.
Don't bother with Libreoffice or the like, it has no real point anymore unless you just want to not use even the free versions of Office.
