Honestly, the OP really hasn't given enough information about what he's trying to do. Does he want whole house audio? If so, how many rooms? Is this just for a TV room?

Unless you are an audiophile, Sonos is just way worth the ease of use and flexibility.

It can be pricey, but build over time. But I wouldn't look back. A receiver, wiring everywhere, poor centralized controls, just have no interest in that. Yes, that can be better, and maybe cheaper, but overall not worth the effort if you don't need the absolute best quality sound. Sonos is pretty darned good.

I’m a fan of Sonos for most people.

You won’t get the best sound system, but you’ll get a convenient wireless system that sounds really good and will satisfy most uses.

I will be PCSing w/i the next 3 months and haven't found a new place to live yet, so there is no exact idea of what I am trying to do...that said I am looking to get something for when I am finally all set up to have sound that covers the TV room, bedroom, and kitchen or bathroom.

While I like the ease of Sonos and the wireless aspect, I am not a fan of the app you are required to use to utilize their system. I don't want something so restrictive.

I prefer speakers with rubber or similar flexible connections between the speaker and the housing.

What is the hypothetical advantage of doing this?

When I did home audio installs back in the day we would have a fair number of customers over-drive their speakers and rip the (literal) paper gasket. Granted, it's 25 year old experience, but I'm also the guy that keeps my laser printer rollers flexible with white lithium. Because those six pages a month I scan are super, super important.

100% agree on Sonos. I am tech inclined, but Sonos makes good stuff, and your wife/girlfriend can use it without asking you. It's worth an extra couple hundred for that alone. I've done multi-zone amps with built in speakers, and many other things, and it's never happening again. A multi-zone amp for seven? zones cost $1700 nearly 8 years ago, not including installation or the in-wall speakers. The in walls and the amp were my biggest wastes of money on that house besides the pool. Just buy a Sonos One every month for a couple of months instead.

I set up the sources on my PC, not my phone. Once you install it, and add the sources, you just tend to do things like click on, "New Orleans BBQ by Pandora" or "Chris Stapleton Radio" and change the volume. We didn't do much else than that. All of that is listed at the top as soon as you open the app.

If you're PCSing (I don't know if overseas) your Pandora/Spotify/etc. accounts may not work. Look at the prices between a Sonos One (often discounted for $169, but can keep the entire backyard satisfied) versus the other brands which require some sort of amp.

Three Sonos One SLs, $510. I don't know that you have much of a choice given that you're still active and can't run wire.

But that truly is dedication to have to listen to Metallica in the shower

for anyone that's price conscious but interested in Sonos, their "symfonisk" ikea exclusive models are the best bet.

I am trying to find speaker system for my house, could use some help, haven't bought before but had somebody told me to stick to these 4 brands.

I have a Marantz A/V system, and KEF speakers. I also have SONOS as well.

SONOS is simplistic in terms of ease of use. A non-techie person can figure it out.

Marantz or any A/V system, and speakers (any brand) will require you to hard wire.

They are fantastic speakers. Mine are a wee bit smaller.

My KEF Eggs have lasted 20 years. KEF makes high quality stuff. Also B&W.

Marantz and Denon have been my go to receivers over the years.

I have paradigm speakers and Yamaha receiver with with SVS sub.

Now you could do a couple sonos amps and Polk speakers (they don’t need as much power as most of the other brands to drive them) and be quite pleased
