Has this board talked about YouTube’s ads

These bastards are out of control! Massive ramp up in the frequency of ads, significant decrease in the percentage of ads you can skip, and significant increase in the number of breaks with 3 ads instead of 1 or 2.
Today was the first time I saw the new ad monstrosity… a split screen where the ad plays in parallel with your video. Your video continues, but without the volume… you only hear the ad. Can’t even pause your main video until the ad is over, because the pause button pauses the ad too. So you have to end up rewinding your video back to the start of the bad break to hear what was said when they force muted you.
Complete nonsense. They know they have a monopoly… now they’re turning the screws on it.

I use the Smart Tube app on my firestick which is where I watch most of my vids. I think I had to Sideload it as it isn't on the Play Store . On my phone I use the Duck Duck Go player.

What ads? Even before I started using FreeTube, using the browser Brave in private mode, I haven't seen an ad that wasn't a "live read" in the video.

I have been a premium subscriber since covid. I was tired of ads and they had a free trial. I'm not sure what your gripe is. Every subscription has gone up in price. I remember paying less than $10 a month for Netflix.
I couldn't imagine having to watch ads. To me it just depends on how much you use YT whether or not. I watch things on it daily so it makes sense for me. I just wish they'd have a discount for YTTV subscribers as well.

Idk. The value is worth it to me. My point was that every subscription service has gone up in price.
I do have to thank you though. Prices were going up to 20.99/mo but when I went back and looked, I can sign up directly through youtube for 15.99/mo instead of through apple and paying for a passthrough.

No, I've had YouTube Premium since the Red days and would never unsub. A nice bonus that YT Music is also my music service, hard to beat the price for both of those services combined. Great value. And I quit Netflix years ago but would never consider it for YT Premium or Prime.

I also have YT premium but I do have an idea of what he’s talking about.
I bought it for the “no ads” feature but that is no longer the case. Many YouTube channels are increasingly adding ads “cleverly” embedded in the total content. And it’s a nuisance.

The ads on free YouTube, or the ones creeping into Premium feeds? You’d think there’s a difference— they’re both just noise at this point.
Feels like déjà vu from when cable promised “ad-free”.
Also, the flood of AI-generated content is making YT harder to sift through.

I have never had an actual ad while in YT premium. I don't know what you're talking about.
Now content creators I follow do some ad reads, but that's completely different.

Just got a notification on my account saying there will be a $2/mo. price increase next month- from $13.99 to $15.99/mo. Still well worth the cost.

Same. And 99% of the time it is easy to skip over.
The hate for ads is hilarious to me. You people think you should just be able to consume all content for free? You realize these companies and content creators are in this to make money right?

You should probably try reading this thread from the beginning again. I dont see anyone complaining they can't watch ad-free for free. The thread started with a complaint about the amount of increased ads.
