I'm looking at getting a new phone and debating between these two.

I always liked Samsung. I've had the galaxy line from its first gen to the Note 8 which i love.

I need a new work cell and im caught between going with another galaxy or making the switch to a Pixel.

What are the pros and cons of the pixel over the samsung?
Does it have less unerasable bloat-ware than the galaxy.that's my biggest problem with Samsung.

that's a solid plus. that's my biggest problem with the galaxy. fricking Samsung has a wonderful product that they hamstring with 10GB worth of undeletable bullshite. It's infuriating.

It's like if Lamborghini released a world beating sports car that has half the gas tank filled with plastic and a V8 engine, but two of the cylinders are dedicated to running a feature no one wants or uses anyway.

Go with Pixel. You won't be let down and will get all the updates right as they come out.

Breesus, do you happen to have a Samsung Gear S3 (frontier or classic) watch? If not, then I'd say go with the Pixel 2/XL.
If you do have that watch, you'd lose the ability to have Samsung Pay and Samsung Pay is simply amazing. Blows the Apple watch/apple pay system out of the water and it's not close.

same

i was fortunate to get upgraded from 6P to this Pixel XL and man, the phone has been a beast.

if the choice is between a native android experience or a samsung bloated phone, you go with the former 100 times out of a 100.

I moved to the pixel xl from my old galaxy 4. IMO, Samsung is going downhill with their products. I absolutely LOVED the 4. My dad has nothing but problems with the 5 and my wife totally HATED her 6 enough to switch over to Apple for her next phone. No idea what they're doing now.

My pixel xl was the first phone I got that everything seemed to work as I expected it to and the learning curve wasn't near as big. Plus you get free google storage and a more seamless experience. If you don't mind google.

They've been pretty much killing it with the s8 and s9

Well, I had the s4 well over 2 years. I'm close to 2 on the pixel now I think. My point was the 5 and 6 made all of us quit with samsung. Then there was the whole battery thing. Glad to hear they've turned the corner and hopefully are making THEIR phones again and not trying to beat Apple at their own game.

New Pixel comes out later this year, right? I've been eyeing the Pixel 2 since my Nexus 6 is turning into a POS, but now I'm thinking about waiting for the new one.

whats going on with it? (forgive me if we've had this conversation, i'm old and senile)

i factory reset mine every 6-12 months and its buttery smooth again for awhile until the inevitable app-creep happens again.

Yea, if the trend continues, it should be in October that the Pixel 3/Pixel 3 XL comes out.

Battery inconsistency. It'll say 30%, but suddenly shut itself down and when I put it on charger, it goes right back to 30%.

Certain apps just bog it down, Snapchat especially. I don't really use Snapchat very much, but it's annoyingly slow when I do. Phone app is also extremely slow to the point I rarely take pics with it.

I could probably try a factory reset. Never have before.

mine is definitely usable. i wouldnt say its a barn-burner these days but no complaints.

try the factory reset; it might give you enough mileage to make it until the P3 launch (which I hear is going to be very $$$) and prices of gen1 and gen2 pixels should drop at that time.

The pixel1 XL is maddeningly staying around $300 . that fricker just wont dip under $200 no matter what.
