That's because it's such a solid phone. It's still worth the $300 price point.

The pixel1 XL is maddeningly staying around $300 . that fricker just wont dip under $200 no matter what.

They had refurbed Pixel XL's on Woot for $210/$250 last week.

I'm rolling with the Pixel I got for $115 on craigslist but I'd rather the XL

I've had Samsung galaxies pretty much since they started making them and I just recently bought the pixel 2 a few months ago. All I can say is I'll never own another Samsung again. My only regret is I should have gotten the pixel 2 XL instead.

I was kind of turned off by the pixel 2. But damn the pixel xl is a nice phone and still going strong. IMO, people keeping their phones more than 2 years or not even knowing it's been 2 yrs is the sign of a great phone. From what I've heard, the first pixel was better than 2.

I wouldn't say the first generation is better than the 2. They're both great but the 2 has better specs.

if the choice is between a native android experience or a samsung bloated phone, you go with the former 100 times out of a 100.

I've only had Nexus or pixel phone since the Nexus 4 and I won't use anything else

I'd switch to iPhone before going back to something with bloatware on it

Even more than that... My son bought one online and it had a Verizon sim card in it. I thought he bought the wrong phone but he put a tmo Sim into it and it fired right up!

Did Google make the pixel a universal phone that works for both video and att/tmo?

Love my Pixel 2 but I got a semi deep scratch on it in the first 10 days size of a fingernail edge. I've owned LG G, G5, and Notes and never once got scratches on either of them.

This was with case as well.

Love the phone though, it's super snappy

Using the Android P beta on Pixel 2 XL...battery life is through the roof.

If you buy the Galaxy good luck getting Android P in about a year, year and a half. Samsung is notoriously shitty about rolling out Android updates. part of the reason I swapped from them to the Pixel line.

And eventually they stop the updates

If you plan on keeping the phone long term you'll eventually hit a cap on updates

We're about to retire our Note 4s once the Note 9 comes out, because we're huge Samsung fans in our house.

Does anyone have a solid way for transferring all pics, texts, etc from a Samsung device to another Android without the benefit of SmartSwitch?

This.

And why would you want your photos stored locally on your device

If you buy a pixel it comes with a transfer device and will guide you through the process. It's super easy. But as others have said, if you have Google photos, and backup, when you login to your new device with Gmail account, everything will be there

No, they're all backed up through Google Photos.

Well if they're already backed up via google photos then no "transfer" is necessary onto the new device. Just log in and there they will be.

I really couldnt tell you about text though. I don't use Samsung.
