Sounds like the position of the sensor should be somewhere else then

I'll take the ease of the sensor on the back when I'm holding it, to not having it on the front. It's soooo awesome having it on the back when I'm holding it.

Yep, much much better on the back.

I don't want anything on the front of my display, slim bezels and a pure clean look all damn day.

6P does it to perfection.

It seems kind of limiting on the back.

It's not at all. I dont know how you hold your phone but i always pick my phone up with the index finger on the back. I love the placement of the fingerprint sensor.

If my phone is lying flat on a desk i just use the swipe unlock feature. But if im at home or at work or in my car the phone doesnt lock anyway due to trusted devices/places.

Regardless who came up with the design first, this looks way too similar to the iPhone 6/6s which I never liked

If you don't want to pick your phone up off your desk. You can just swipe to unlock. On Android there are trusted devices. If your phone is connected through Bluetooth to a trusted device you can unlock without a code of fingerprint. If you wear a smart watch, fitness tracker or any type of Bluetooth headphones you never have to worry about unlocking your device. There are also trusted places. You can set certain addresses like home or work or certain wifi and your phone won't lock. There is also trusted voice. Where your phone will unlock by voice command. I personally use trusted device or smart lock. As long as my watch is in Bluetooth range of my phone I never have to unlock it. If sit my phone down and leave the room then a fingerprint or code is needed. Fingerprint on the back is the best place because it's the most natural especially when sliding a device out of your pocket.

If I have a trusted place and and leave my phone on my desk, anyone can access my phone at work. Sounds like the sensor should be moved

If you are worried about that then don't set up a trusted place. Not rocket science. I disagree with you on the location of the sensor. I think it's much better on the back but to each his own.

I like it on the back for aesthetics and natural finger placement when in the hand. Since they went with a Jay Leno chin on this thing, they could have put one on the front AND back. Or just front facing stereo speakers.

For the 7 or the pixel, back top is an ok placement. Feels good right there. For the larger phones like the 7+ and pixel xl, the front bottom is the superior placement over the back top. It needs to be lower on the back on the larger phones. When you grab your phone out of your pocket or holding it in portrait mode, the lower the placement, the better. Where it is at currently requires readjustment of hand position if you want to type.

You also left out the option for trusted faces. I do face scanning on my N6 already.

Fair criticism. HTC screwed the pooch on the design, looks too much like an iPhone with a huge bezel yet no front-facing speakers or fingerprint scanner on the front as well.

Sounds like you have some shitty coworkers?

It's just a preference thing. Lots of people like the scanner on the front, lots like it on the back of the phone (me included). I don't find picking a phone off the desk to look at it to be that bothersome considering it's more convenient every other time.

If you don't trust your coworkers to leave your phone alone, then it's not a trusted place.

I don't get the uproar over this looking like an iPhone. I feel like people are saying this only because it has a white front. If it was the black model, there would be very little whining.

Looks very similar to a ton of other phones. It's just convenient to claim it's an iPhone ripoff and the article's tone is absurd
