It's beyond simple. Although you may have to spend an hour or so downloading the apps you'll need such as Exodus and Sportsdevil and reading on the web how to install them. Even if you buy a box with them preinstalled, at some point you will need to learn how to install apps as the the lifespan of any given app is dependent on the individual developer. Those developers get bored with the upkeep of apps and abandon them sometimes. So you have to install whatever the hot new app is at the time. And FYI, The firestck doesn't have to be jailbroken to install KODI. You can install straight out of the box.

Any clue if the Dish Anywhere app works on it? I've tried on one of the S905 boxes, but the app doesn't launch.

Listen to meauxjeaux2, I have firestick, firebox, and the MQX with the bluetooth remote. If it is for kodi there is no comparison, get the MQX.

Don't think so, but I have seen Uverse's app

here's all you need OP.
I just purchased this.
Is there any specific guide I can follow to get the most out of this thing?
I would love to cut the cord but my wife likes shitty reality TV and all the HGTV shows. What is the best way of accessing those, if possible. I am not trying to really cut the cord yet, but would like to one day if I can cover most of my basis.

I'm currently using the Exodus add-on in Kodi. One of the features that might make things easy for your wife is to browse by network. After selecting HGTV, it will show a list of all of the shows on that network.
Here's a current list of the best add-ons. LINK

Thanks. Will check it out.

It comes loaded with Kodi and all the channels already, it runs smoother, and using the bluetooth remote is much easier than the amazon remote.

Man I don't understand.
I have the firestick on my new tv and I have a tremendous wifi router and it is constantly cutting out or dropping.. giving me issues when I stream my plex or ESPN..
Yet none of my other devices, roku stick, chromecast, smart tv apps.. all the same apps on those devices.. never once.. not once.. ever give me a streaming issue.
I assumed it was possibly I just got a bad firestick, but perhaps it is just weak with wifi.. Like I said, my internet is extremely great and my signal is great.

Yes, I have that nighthawk router and I have over 100mb cable internet.. and the Firestick is the only device to ever give me problems buffering/dropping/freezing..
It's so annoying, I barely even use it.

Not correcting you, because you quoted the other guy, but isn't it MXQ?
I see them on amazon for like $30 and on eBay with kodi installed for only like 10 dollars more.

I just saw that thing yesterday. Does not seem worth the price unless you HAVE to have 60 FPS

Shield is the best android platform for Kodi but it's far from the best hardware. It currently doesn't support HD Audio passthrough.
I use an Asus Chromebox (can be found $130-150) running Openelec as my main hardware. Have a fire stick in the bedroom. Also have an older AML 8726-MX box (previous generation MXQ)

Do you have it plugged into to the power adapter? Using it as a standalone stick proved to be worthless to me when I was trying it, always have it plugged in to get any type of decent performance

Wouldn't you want this MXQ box instead?
