That is the opposite of that. Rates are raised not because of free market, but because of government penalties.

Me keeping my unlimited data plan is the ONLY reason im still with at&t to this day.

If at&t forces me to give up my data plan for a 2-yr upgrade priced phone, im switching carriers in a heartbeat.

Same here.

No. They would be choosing to raise rates, not forced by government. Nobody told them to make billions off of their customers by breaking the law. They could take cuts elsewhere instead of raising rates, but if they do, the customers will leave.

This is the reason they decided to lie to their customers in the first place.

You break the rules, you get fined. Pay your fine and move on. If you choose to raise your prices after that, customers will move on. I don't understand the confusion here.

This is what you dont understand.

The industry is now regulated like a utility. That creates a barrier to entry for NEW companies. It in a sense creates an artifical oligarchy.

Now, if they start paying fines, they will then raise their rates. So weill their competitors raise their rates...why? Because they can. there is no one else coming in the game that will undercut them.

This is why government regulated industries are NOT free markets.

But keep thinking this government regulation will make things better and cheaper. keep disregarding the fact government regulation has NEVER led to something becoming cheaper and better.

The irony. You brain washed Rand Paul supporting libertarians are clueless. You can't seem to see past the libertarian utopia that is the PT board.

And you can't seem to see past your overpriced cell phone plan simply because the government doesn't allow you to.

This:

is not good for competition. A lack of competition is not good for you.

What does that chart show? Market share? %of industry profits? Number of people?

That chart is useless.
