how would one's isp get notified of a person downloading copyrighted content, let's say a movie if using a vpn?

said vpn doesn't retain any logs and all dns leak tests found no leaks (websites suchs as dns leak tests, ip leak test, mr. whoer). kill switch is active if connection were to drop.

all hypothetical of course.

this hypothetical person was probably uploading it or allowing leechers unknowingly

yes, it did get "seeded" after it finished downloading initially.

explain this to me like i am five. how does seeding or allowing leechers to download file put one in "jeopardy?" a vpn connection was active the entire time.

The only reason this happened (allowing others to download) is because i had stepped away from computer after it initially finished d/l'ing and immediately deleted it once I became available).

hypothetically.

hypothetically someone on this board probably has invites to a private tracker that hypothetically that same someone has seeded hundreds of quality content packages for years and years without getting a single letter without using a VPN.

hypothetically if one were to provide an email address, this information could hypothetically be transferred to the originator and they would never see another DMCA notice and not have to worry about whether a given file was left in a 'seeding' state.

hypothetically.

The vpn is between this hypothetical person and the internet, not the other person downloading. Also some companies are just more strict about looking for pirates. Smaller companies either don't care or don't have the resources so maybe the content being seeded was from a company that doesn't like sharing as much.

If you're using a VPN and DNS through someone like Google, your ISP shouldn't catch you

You are streaming (viewing) a movie, not downloading it (owning). What are they going to do?

Hypothetically, would one even care about getting one dmca notice? Assuming, hypothetically, of course, that one didn't get another one?

Unhypothetically, I got my internet suspended for 6 months and had to use a shitty Verizon mifi.

"Pesky kids must be downloading shite again" only works so many times...hypothetically.

I would imagine as to not have his service suspended? I’m sure different ISPs have different rules or tolerance levels for this kind of stuff.

How does an IP address (in this case his real IP) get revealed? If he is using a VPN, is it because he seeded a file, in this case a movie?

Also, is this a case of his ISP ratting on him? Again, how could anyone see him if he used a VPN that didn’t leak? Does it go back to the seeding?

I ask because all these years I thought a VPN would hide a person online, downloading or uploading (seeding) torrents, Maybe I have just been lucky all this time as I know for sure I have seeded files as well while using a VPN.

and i've seeded stuff from private trackers since 2014 WITHOUT a VPN and never gotten a dmca notice.

if i so much as sniff the piratebay page i'll get a dmca email 2 seconds later so rule of thumb; find a private tracker and don't worry about a VPN.

if this ever changes y'all know i'll be the first to bitch about it on here. i don't think comcast cares about the private trackers; too easy for them to catch all the newbie fish they want going to public sites.

if you want, you can always use a service like bitport.io and all the torrenting goes through them. then you can just download it directly from them which can't be traced. they also have a program that automatically downloads it to your PC once it finishes and removes it off your cloud storage to make room for more downloads.

they may be the cheapest option like this and don't have overall caps. they just have a certain storage amount you pay for, but if you choose to delete after downloading then it should not matter much.
