Can't break from apple

I have the nexus 6 and the iPhone 6 plus. I Bought the iPhone after using the nexus only because all my friends use iPhones and Im always left out of important group texts. It's kind of frustrating that imessage can have that effect. I like iMessage just holds back from switching to google for the long haul.

I should have said group iMessages. It only sends it that way and so while using the nexus in left out.

Luckily I'm the opposite, all my friends have Androids and we all use Hangouts so those with Apple get left out.

That doesn't help. From someone else's phone especially when in a group text it still default sends as iMessage. So those with iPhones are in those without aren't.

Well, again, you or your friends are doing something wrong.
My whole family has iPhones, yet we can successfully send messages to each other while I'm on Android.

Trust me, you are not missing out on group texts. They are fun 1% of the time and annoying 99% of the time.

Use GroupMe. It's probably the best app out there.
ETA: it turns group texts into message boards. You can gif anything or meme any photo in seconds.

Have you guys not heard of WhatsApp? iMessage for group texts in not sustainable. Who the hell wants to be in a closed ecosystem like that, especially when it means so many people have to stick to the said ecosystem.
Give WhatsApp a try. It is the best messaging app there is and it is platform agnostic.

You have to just turn off your imessages on all of your apple devices and it won't be a problem anymore you big dum dum

It should only do that if your phone number is still linked with imessage or they are sending to your Apple id.

I'm regularly on a group text w/ about 12 people (it blows) and I'm the only person with Android (m8). Mine is a little more delayed than all of theirs, but I get them fine.

Hangouts work on iPhone, but iMessage is definitely more convenient, so I doubt he can get them to switch.

I don't have iPhone or Android, and i never miss group texts in a group of mixed users.
