I am using retropie with a custom image from Arcade Punks. I have to remap EVERY time I power off. I think I fixed Dragon's Lair with help from the Daphine Wiki, but I am just not sure If I am playing the game or not...LOL.

Anyone know of any Arcade button testers? I want one that when I press the button, it gives me the button number. I think I have them all from the Emulation Station config mapping but I am just not sure.

Emulation station does an OK job but sometimes the buttons don't line up. Also, it seems not Emulation station inverts player 2 every time we configure it. Up is down, Button 1 is button 11. etc.

Update: I had my joysticks physically inverted. I remounted them and re-wired all my buttons to the USB encoder to match each other. Note that when you map one set of joysticks and buttons in emulation station it defaults all joystick and button layouts to the one you mapped. So make them all match exactly.

Hopefully this fixes my remapping every power cycle as well.

i'm not 100% sure that's required. i always map my player 1 controls then go in and map the player 2 controls afterwards and that seems to work.

i had this problem in the beginning as well but i'll have to flip over my control panel and see if I actually flipped the joystick or just fixed it in emulation station.

So I’m able to get a TMNT for $200 or a MKII with riser and stool (don’t know if it was Costco special or not) for $210. What do you think I should go with? My plan would be to mod this cab. The TMNT would give me a bigger control deck but the MKII I would probably just need to change Springs, gates, buttons and not actually do any drilling.

Around me, it’s someone on OfferUp. I’d much rather buy from Walmart but the Walmarts around me don’t have any clearancing of the arcade1ups going on

Here's where I'm at so far. Risers are sold out all over town so I stole the 2 Ikea tables from my daughter's room (she's away at college) and they are ghetto but I have to say they are the PERFECT height. With the riser you need a bar stool but with the Ikea stools they're perfect for standing. I wanted everyone to enjoy them during the LSU game.

Even with this crappy pic you can tell the Dell monitor is FAR AND AWAY the better display. Probably going to sell the Final Fight unit since it was my test unit and its ugly and I butchered the control panel when I drilled it out.

Finally getting the hang of setting up the controls using the MAME menus. Loving Smash TV!

Hey, if I replace a vertical monitor with, say, a Dell turned vertically, is it easy to have the pi turn its output so that it displays correctly?

Thanks!

Grab the 8GB vertical game only rom image I posted back in this thread. They already rotated the games for you.

Yup.... a single command added to the /boot/config

Add the following; (you may need to change the number to get the correct orientation in multiples.of 90 degree sides)

lcd_rotate=2

Save the file and reboot.

Will I be able to use a 42" TV in a Multicade cab?

That's going to be a BIG cab! My full size vpinball cab uses a 43" for the playfield.... that screen size is 22.5x38" plus any bezel (if you don't uncase it)

diminishing returns. I get some of the light gun games and immersive games where you sit inside a booth have large screens but old school arcade games on a 20" display your standing in front of is plenty big.

try it out. you can hook a pc or raspberry pi up to it and plug in a keyboard and try out the game roms.

i know of several that automatically put really nice bezels on the sides so the 16:9 isn't distracting.

42" consumer TVs lack the crispness of computer displays but since its very easy to test it out, give it a try. it wont fit in a 1up cabinet though

I need to dive into this thread. Trying to do a budget MAME setup with an older Windows 7 PC, an X-Arcade dual joystick and a bookshelf...I know, sounds ridiculous

I'm having major issues getting MAME to simply run on the PC in question though (emachines el1352-07e)...never had this problem before on any computer! Any recommendations here?

Pick up a $75 1up cabinet from Walmart, $35 raspberry pi, $8 32gb memory card and one of those button/joystick kits on Amazon for $30 with everything you need.

If you have an old set of computer speakers you're covered or you'll need to buy a $10 amp to reuse the existing speaker in the cabinet.

For display if you can find an old Dell 17" for $5 or $10 on Craigslist grab it and swap the built in. You'll need a VGA to HDMI cable.

If you can't find a display for cheap you'll have to pay $25 for a special doohickey that will let you use the one that came with the unit.

Borrow a drill bit or buy a cheap one from harbor freight and drill 6 button holes for each player (depending on which cabinet you find most of these may already exist)

Watch the eta prime video on YouTube that shows you how to connect it together. It's really easy.

That's the cheapest way to get 1,000s of games in a cabinet that I know of. Keep an eye out for those old Dell monitors. There are so many out there they are practically free.

Only issue with the rpi setup will he newer game systems and 3D arcade games.

Not all will be able to be ran.

I plan to do two-3 cabs. A vertical classics. A horizontal classics. And a newer one(with pc) for newer consoles and 3d arcade games.
