NOTE - NOT MY HOUSE

I would love to have a full-size cabinet but at $200 this is a great place to start & see how much I will even use it. The 1up is a great value for the money; its just sorely lacking in customization & ROM support.

This is going to be fun!

FYI if you live near Nashville, the Space Invaders unit is $75

I'm going to grab one after work today.

LINK

Try punching your area code in at that link above to look for $75 Space Invader consoles.

This link is also incredible at helping to find cheap consoles in your area

The things you need to watch for:
- Gen1 vs Gen2 (most of the 1ups from last year have a 1 processor CPU vs quad core for Gen2 like Street Fighter, etc)
- Orientation of monitor (if multi-use). For instance Asteroids & Galaga are vertical vs Defender that's horizontal so match the ROMs to the monitor orientation.
- Controls built into console (space invaders is just simply joystick & button) so that limits which ROMs you can play on this without upgrading the board.
- Call 1up if you buy this and you can likely talk them into sending you a FREE arcylic protector for the console art. The artwork under joystick/spinners are notorious for rubbing off after just a few plays without it.

- Plan on the $45 riser as part of your purchase. IMO that's a requirement. You can go on ebay & find custom art decals to put on the riser to match whatever game theme your unit is which is nice if you end up with 2 or 3 cabinets and @ $75 who wouldn't just go ahead & buy several?

I’ve posted my 4 player TMNT cab on here before. You missed out on gamers underground running the project hyperspin collection. Had almost everything to the N64 and PSX era completely cataloged.

There is a place in Chattanooga called Chattanooga Pinball that has a bunch of old beat up cabs you can refurb and build your own control panel. That’s what I did, I bought an old Blitz 2000 cab with just the monitor and built my own computer and control board for it. Was pretty cheap back then, they have moved buildings several times, so may be more expensive now.

I will see if I can find my old cab pics on here and repost them.

Real old pic before I fixed up my basement, control lighting changes based on the game you play.

yeah i feel like i've missed out on EVERYTHING. i used to have my finger on the pulse of the MAME community even maintained one of the big websites for awhile in the late 1990s then got married & busy.

i would love to jump back in but i'm so worried the learning curve is too steep at this point to find everything again.

Take a look at RetroPi.... Running on a RaspiPi3. Plenty of horsepower... runs everything MAME, Atari, Sega, etc.... just add a monitor, joysticks and buttons (over USB) drop it into your favorite cabinet or build your own.

Im doing this exact same thing with the 1up but taking things a little more detailed. I want one cabinet for nes only, 1 for sega, 1 for atari, 1 for mame vertical, and 1 for mame horizontal so I dont have to reset the controls and keep them easy.

Im gonna use the retropie for sega/nes/and atari because thats plenty of power. I have tested most of the mame on the retropie and the power is there but I have a few old pcs that are more powerful and I can build the custom front end for the games. Myu only concern would the 17 inch monitor be big enough so Im gonna do the nes version first.

I have a mame file that has most of the classics from 1975-2000. Im not really interested in the newer mame stuff. Has all the roms and the cmd files. I will have to go and check which version I have but they are all their and no duplicates or modded mames. Should be a fun project.

RPi is pretty weak for some MAME stuff and N64 and newer era in console. Its good for retro stuff though.

If you get the right front end, it does all that for you. I don't mess with any controls when swapping emulators. Multiple cabs would be awesome though, just don't want to take all that room. I'd like to have a trackball cab, a fighter 7 button cab, and a 2 or 4 button cab for classics, and a 4 player cab instead of stuffing them all into one.

It's super easy to get back in. Build your own arcade controls is a great forum and can answer a ton of questions.

2 sets:

0.78 and 1.51 both around 40 gigs. You will have to play around with them. If your using a cpu, mame64 will do the trick to play these. Im looking to upload them for you. The hardest part is to go through the list and remove which games you dont want and then create a file for just those games. You can seperate these into vertical and horizontal with the mame64 program. Or it might be easier just to find a list of all mame games (some mame programs can output a list for you) and get those specific games. Just make sure the cmds and other necessary parts of the game are included.

Will report back.

I would love to get this as well if possible. I have an old MAME folder, but many of the files are out of date.

Also, street fighter is a good mame setup as far as buttons. You only need to drill 1-2 more holes whereas the others there are several.

I would assume TMNT is already setup for mame without having to drill holes. Youtube it (this is the raspberry pi mode but you can find mame mods as well with those configurations for the street fighter) LINK

I love my Retropi set up but I would only use it as a NES/SNES Mini replacement. Most stuff past the mid 90's won't run all that great. Mario64 is playable where as Cruisin USA is hot garbage with like 5 frames a second if that. If one is putting together a full size arcade cabinet there is no reason not to have a cheap PC in there.

RPi 4 should perform a lot better, hoping Retropie is released for it before Christmas.
