Good thing these things can be sold used for practically the same price as new

I'm most disappointed by the Sonos lie which is their claimed mission statement:

quote:

All the music on earth. And then some.

1. Yeah I know. If it's well known I hate Apple for their closed ecosystem why did I buy Sonos? I didn't realize how limiting it would be I suppose.

2. Price. Yeah I knew it was expensive but I was willing to pay the price if the system truly handled "All the music on earth. And then some.". Not. Even. Close.

3. The Sonos support forums are full of smug employees preaching to people about why they are wrong for wanting feature x, y or zero rather than trying to add features people request over and over. I'm looking at you Tony Fadell.

In short, Sonos refuses to play YouTube because of the bullshite excuse that you are supposed to be watching YouTube while listening to it therefore it's not music. Seriously?? I'll just plug in my headphone cable into a traditional stereo and listen to youtube for a solid fricking week if I want and you can GFY. Don't belittle your users who have asked for this for years and tell them they are wrong for wanting a feature "nobody would use" and "we are confused. Why would you want to listen to the YouTube audio without seeing the video?" Nice deflection.

No cloud-no saved settings-no CAD. It's 2017. You can't remember my speaker groups if the power goes out or I want to temporarily play the same music on all speakers? That's ridiculous. I don't care if you use cloud technology or simply save the 1kb of data required to remember my settings on the speakers themselves, just save my settings. You remember my Google play and Pandora passwords so don't make excuses for not allowing me to create, name, save and reuse my own speaker groups.

No internet control. Are you kidding me? I can't remotely change the music playing on my Sonos home system and Sonos is going to lecture me about why I need to play music when I'm not home to hear it?? I'm sorry but I wanted to put on some smooth jazz about 5 minutes before I arrive home to put the SO in the mood so GFY if you won't give me the option.

Clearly I'm not cut out to conform to strict and narrow rules I am bound under as a lucky Sonos owner. Don't tell me what constitutes "correct" and "incorrect" audio, just play what I damn well want.

The youtube thing is funny, especially considering that many music videos don't actually have anything to watch other than the album cover.

YouTube has many rare concerts and songs you literally cannot purchase anywhere. Denying there is a want to play this music on your stereo is dishonest and insulting to your user base.

That was the last straw for me when we had friends over last night and we were discussing rare music but no one could share it except by propping up their cellphones on the table because we could only find it on YouTube. . I have this great sounding system but unless those songs are on Spotify or Google music they apparently don't exist.

I'm going to keep looking around for a system that's not so arrogant and flippant towards the people keeping them in business. I was prepared to give Sonos a pass on this as something they were working on until I started reading the support forums and saw how they treat requests. I saw one thread where the mod threatened to ban a user who kept making the request. Nice.

I dont ever try to listen to music on youtube so I dont know but if you had a connect or a connect amp you could send the audio signal from your AVR or something like that play the audio from youtube onto the connect/amp

no. Sonos is old school before the whole casting concept took off and they haven't adopted that paradigm yet.

couple of 3s and a couple of 1s. Was slowly building up my setup and learning along the way.

Eta Sonos works great for people and businesses with very specific use cases, CAD is just "special needs" and it's not really fitting how I listen to music.

Well the play 5s and connect amps have line-ins, which you could hook the computer to, and play on all of your other speakers at the same.

There are several ways to play YouTube through Sonos. A Google search or visit to their forums answers your questions.

They are slow on feature additions but I imagine native YouTube will come at some point

Or if you already have a stereo system you can hook up to, just add the connect to stream through all your other speakers.

I don't have any Sonos stuff so I'm not sure how it all works, but if you have to search Google to figure out how to play YouTube through your speakers, that sounds like a huge fail IMO.

Look into Harman Kardon's wireless home audio solutions. It's a great system.
