Why in the hell does a 3 year old need a tablet? Buy it some toys and read it some books. Try not to make it brain dead by the time it reaches 5.

None. Let them have a few good years of enjoying life without being tethered to technology and hopelessly staring at a touch screen.
eta: or a used iPad 2 with no wifi connectivity.

LeapPad. It at least has age-appropriate educational games. Way less of a headache and more rugged than a tablet.

What in the heck does a 3 year old need a tablet for?

he basically uses it for youtube, amazon video, netflix, etc. you know, for kid shows so mommy can still watch her big tv.

You guys clearly do not have a 3 yr old....
If you use Apple products, I'd go iPad, used wifi only for cheap. Much more games developed for it, and can share across tablets/phone without having to repay. A lot of those toddler games are smart/sneaky bastards. Free, but get all this extra access/puzzles/etc for $1.99. That way if you have it on same account, all devices get the access.
Kindle Fire is probably the cheapest, but not really the easiest to use and not nearly as much available.

Daddy could use it while the 3 year old isn't and I think would be satisfied

How can a 3 year old use any of the sites if they can't read or spell? You have to search for content. Maybe baby just needs to learn to entertain itself while mommy is watching tv like children have done for 50 years.

Taught my 3-year-old to operate the track pad on my laptop. I put a shortcut to youtube on my desktop. She double clicks it and it pulls up all of her subscribed channels (mostly Mother Goose Club, Peppa Pig, Dora, Caillou, etc.) and clicks a video. No typing or reading necessary.

So nothing of value. Lets not let her accidentally learn to read...

You wanted to know how. I told you how.
She is 3. Youtube time is pre-bedtime wind down/let-mommy-cook-and-daddy-put-the-baby-to-bed-without-pestering-the-shite-out-of-us-for-a-minute.
Technology doesn't have to be evil and brain-rotting. Don't worry; my kids will soon, and inevitably, know more about tech than most of the idiots who post here.

I do not understand why parents want to get there kids electronics so young. I have 3 kids the oldest being 7 and we occasionally let them use our tablets, but I do not think they need tablets. Instead I'd buy them toys, books or whatever else to stimulate there brain.

Don't get your fricking 3 year old a tablet.
Get 'em a see and say for Christ's sake.
