Will you come set my 900F up properly?

Honestly, you can probably head over to the AVS Forums and get settings from there that will get you pretty darned close.

I think they are mostly Sony guys.

Henry Alterman is quite possibly the biggest Sony fanboy in the city—his ties to them go back 40 years.

That depends on the person using it

Why yes it is.

Was going to stop there but I’ll elaborate. When I watch the OLED I can’t find a fault with the image. I can just enjoy watching whatever is on it without being bothered by anything. It’s the best image I’ve viewed and I owned a company that installed and setup home theaters and media rooms for 15 years. This is the first display I’ve had or installed that hits this level. Yeah, if it was in a brightly sunlit room it would probably not be bright enough with the amount of ambient light in the room but my room has excellent light control so I don’t have to worry about that. I’ve never been as happy with a display as I am with the LG OLED.

Agree, I have an LG E7 65” and it’s the best tv I’ve owned hands down.

Last I checked, there was one maker of OLED panels. LG continues to be the sole producer of OLED TV panels. Sony buys the panel produces one with their own property stand/speaker/software, but I don't think there is another maker than LG for these "superior" panels. And if there is, could you point out who it is that makes an "inferior" OLED panel?

Right I should have said “tv” instead of “panel” but I’m pretty sure you understood what I was getting at. Sony handles their software different which is why the edge goes to them than LG.

Love my 65" C7 but I do see some issues with dark pictures sometimes where it doens't look "clean" and looks digitized. You ever have that?

I did at first until I went to AVS and found out what features to turn on and off. Honestly, I thought that dark scenes looked like shite until I made the changes.

I really didn't. I assumed you had knowledge of more than 2 manufacturers that used the same panel.

Reading your post again though, it still looks like you draw a major difference between the only two availabile options on the market and seem to double down on that in your last post.

If that's the case, I'll just have to disagree with you. I have the LG at home and have seen the Sony in stores. There are much more similarities than differences. I haven't put a whole lot of hours on a Sony in house to confirm that there isn't a significant difference, but the mind-blowing difference between non-OLED and OLED isn't present on the store demos of these two.

The Sony certainly is more expensive, though. It seems to want people to think it's premium or that it's software is significantly better. But I don't want a behind-screen speaker, and I liked the LG smart software well enough. And I've never seen anything about the picture on a Sony that has blown me away (relative to it's LG cohort).

Oh, man. There isn't much 4k out there to stream, but watching the 4k Planet Earth on this thing was a treat. Water scenes are very confusing at first. There were more reflections than I realized there ever could be.

I Agree with you that Sony charges a premium over LG which is why I said LG wins out. It’s been a while since I have kept up with it, I have read a ton in the past when I was looking for a new tv and Vincent Teoh was where I learned the most of what anyone needs to know. He is a professional calibrater based in the U.K. that puts his findings on YouTube. He is a little quirky in his videos, but I find it entertaining. This is one that I hadn’t seen before that also explains some of the differences. LG C8 vs Sony A8F

First and foremost, is it a bright or dark room?

Bright room= LED
Dark room=OLED

I PERSONALLY love my 75” 900F in my Bright room.

Is their a good thread/post that consolidates all this down for us non-tech specific nerds??

This piece was super helpful,if true, as my living room is pretty bright during the day. I have a little flood light I can dim above my tv (which yes is above my fireplace...only spot. Ha) that I turn on at night if I'm watching tv only. So i'm guessing LED still.

I currently have an older 45" Mitsu with a built in sound bar. Which I wouldnt be looking to change out, but i'm starting to get more and more vertical lines. Which i'm being told isnt fixable.

Anyway i'll eventually look into about a 55" with how much thinner they are now. I'm just not sure of all the "new" stuff like pre-added apps, etc. I dont do netflix or anything. I'm a uverse guy. I just really want to be able to share/mirror/whatever it's called whatever I have on my ipad/andriod/imac on to the the tv w/o having to get up. Pretty simple...I hope as my chrome dongle didnt fit the bill like I had hoped.

What does being a uverse guy have to do with Netflix?

Pretty much any new tv you get today will already have preloaded apps and all that. Whether you use them or not (not sure why someone wouldn’t want to) is up to you

There people like me that use their gaming console as their hub with all their apps.
