My annual promotion discount ends this month (1Gbps for $50/mo) and so I called them up to ask about renewing or getting a new discount. Turns out as of last week, At&t has moved to a "simple" pricing structure that includes all fees and everything with one price (no equip fees) and NO discounts and NO contracts. They are essentially mimicking Google's philosophy. The kicker for me is I also have Google fiber option at my house and now at&t is going to charge $10/mo MORE than google for 1Gbps service.

At&t pricing will still vary by area based on competition (supposedly). I'm not sure I believe this as now At&t is more expensive than everyone else I can pick from. In my area, At&t has raised the prices to as follows:
- 300Mbps $55/mo
- 500Mbps $70/mo
- 1,000Mbps $80/mo (free HBO max)

Luckily I have 3 other fiber options with Xfinity (also offers traditional coax asynchronous service), CCI and Google but I hate getting more crap dug through my yard and mounted to the side of my house.

Hopefully everyone else fairs better than where I am if you like your at&t fiber service. I have been an at&t fiber customer for 7 years and an at&t customer in general via DSL, DirecTV, Wireless for over 15 years. This may be the end of my run.

AT&T is running lines through our neighborhood right now to begin offering fiber. There's a large right-of-way for a gas pipeline behind my property, their line runs along it. For some reason the contractors decided it would be a great idea to put a ground-level access hatch right in my fence line (fence came down during Ida, still waiting for the guy I hired to come put the new one up, not only are enough posts still up to note where the fence will be but they had to actually dig one up to put their access hole in the ground).

fiber/cable contractors are the worst. They aren't paid to care and they clearly dont.

It might be. I have had it for 2 years or so and I have only watched Ready Player One and tom & jerry. I wont miss it.

Damn, I thought all of Old Metairie has had it for years. I have had it available where I'm at in Old Metairie for like 2 years now and I just switched over in December. I was going to get my parents hooked up with fiber soon but I just checked and it's not available where they are in Old Metairie. :(

I think they finished with Tara quite a while ago, unless they stopped and restarted. I've had fiber since May. And all of the techs were very reasonable and respectful, from the guys working on the distribution node in my back yard to the tech who ran glass into my wall.

Just reading this post makes me jealous. I would gladly pay 80 bucks for 1k. I currently pay 105 for rural internet that gives me 12mbs that has to be shared with 8 people in the house. My Starlink Satellite arrives tomorrow and I hope I can get 200mbs consistently. My current internet provider, who won a government grant to bring high speed to rural areas, has 5 years to do it but only 1 year has passed on that plan and he running it to the more populated areas first. I can no longer wait because what I currently have, sucks!

Cox in BTR is screwing people so hard.

Paying $150 a month for unlimited data and 300/10. Can't wait until AT&T Fiber is available in my neighborhood.

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't pay $70 a month for AT&T copper, but AT&T Fiber (I'm currently at $71) is a bargain. I'm likely a keeper around $80 before I would start shopping around.

Maybe 5G will keep broadband prices competitive for a little while. You know the kids in big cities are dumping broadband for 5G only as we speak.

About 4 years ago AT&T decided to dig up my yard without any notice and left 3 pieces of equipment inside the easement. I tried calling the local contractor to no avail. I called a tow service and had their shite towed off my property. I put a note on a stick in the yard telling them who they could call.

When I got fiber for $71, I told a friend that as long as I was in double digits, I would have a hard time arguing.

Not that I want to pay that, but I'm currently paying less money for like 10x more bandwidth than I was getting from Cox.
