So, for someone who doesnt follow these sort of things, what is the major difference between the X and the 8 plus?
Is it just mainly the face recognition? I wouldn't use that anyway, I've never even used the fingerprint scan on mine now.
My 6 is on its last legs, need to upgrade and have been waiting for something to be released. Any help on here would be appreciated.

You're acting butthurt in all the Apple threads. What don't you tell us, expressly, what you don't like about the iphone/Apple?
If anything, I've shite on Windows Phone more. They have a fantastic OS and have done nothing with it.
In regards to Apple, an iPhone from 4 years ago has key features that the iPhone 8/8 Plus/X doesn't, you have to use an adapter to plug the $1000 iPhone into the $2000 Macbook.
And people accept the above without blinking.

I haven't plugged a phone into a computer, other than to root Android phones, in years. Why would I care?
The headphone thing is a bit more compelling, but not by much

It's the fact that you have to jump through hoops to perform basic things

guess im the only one not worried about the faceid not working. im sure itll be fine.
definitely underwhelmed and expected more, but i have a 5S that is dying and I need to upgrade. I like the screen size and one-hand capabilities of the X, so that's what I'm getting

I'm 100% on board with the idea that Apple is annoying as frick. Trying to download a free app on the App Store might require you to put in your password, confirm your payment method, reenter your credit card number, put in your password again, and then go find the fricking app you wanted all over again. It's getting better, but they still make things painful at times.
But, plugging my phone into my computer isn't basic to me, it's 99.9% unnecessary. The headphone thing, maybe, you've got to put the dongle on your headphones or get BT headphones.
The lack of ports on my MacBook is controversial, but it has given me zero issues in 18 months

ya im assuming the faceID will function properly, but its still annoying that a fingerprint wasnt also included.
the most interesting things to me that will make or break the X:
1. faceID performance
2. how novice techies adjust to the no home button (gesture swiping is going to confuse many fan-girlies)

I'm in a similar boat. I switched from iphone to Android about three years ago (HTC), and my phone is on its last legs.
I was looking at the S8 or Note 8, but I'm thinking about going back to the iphone (the X) and getting a watch too.

I have the 7 and AT&T just announced a buy one get one for the 8, so im wondering if i will notice a difference in going from a 7 to a 8? i can always use a faster phone

I think they were going for that but the technology wasn't there yet. Same with Samsung. Maybe next year we'll see phones with fingerprint sensors under the screen.

The touchID thing is the main thing keeping me on the fence.
I'm not excited about the X, but I'm leaning toward switching anyway.
I mainly want an iPhone for the iMessage feature. I figure switching now is a good idea since iOS is changing anyway, I won't have to learn the old iOS and then turn around learn the new one.
I really like OLED, and don't want a phone without it.
As much fanfare as iOS gets, for me, Android is much more intuitive. Small things like being able to swipe off notifications with one swipe and having a back button to navigate are a much bigger deal when you're used to them already.

i have a 7 and will either get the X or stay with the 7. no interest in the 8.
we'll see what verizon offers when the X is released.

There's almost zero chance they got the Face ID perfect with their first iteration.
I really don't understand why they just didnt include a fingerprint scanner and have Face ID as an additional option, instead of the only option (not counting typing in a code).

I'm of the same mindset here. I have the 7 plus. Either I'll switch to the X or keep this one for now. Wireless charging would be nice, but it's nothing that's pushing me to definitively upgrade.

same for me. wireless charging would be cool, but it's not something worth upgrading for.
the improved cameras and chipsets really don't do much for me either.
the X's oled screen and small form factor are what intrigue me.
i'm blase on the facial unlock; i would have preferred touch unlock, but i'll just switch to a 4 digit pin code.

Does this apply to current ATT customers or new customers?

That’s also what I was reading, which could be incorrect. But I’d rather not have the feature than to have what the Galaxy is currently offering. It gives me anxiety just looking at their current setup with the fingerprint sensor so close to the camera.
I wouldn’t have minded one centrally located on the back, but I’m also not sad that it isn’t there. Guess it will all depend on FaceID and how accurate it is.

Yeah the Galaxy/Note screwed up with their fingerprint placement but almost every other android phone has them in very accessible spots on the back.

yea if they would've gone with USB-C on the phones to compliment the new Macbooks that would've been great also. If Apple packages a USB-C to lightning cable with the phones I forsee many people fricking up their devices by mistakenly switching them up.
regular USB cables with them, but they make usb-c/lightning cables that work now. You won't mess them up. I have USB to lightning or USB-C cable that changes depending on which way you put the plug into the phone. I've messed up the direction before and it's no issue.
