I believe we had a bet about the Apple watch...Apple announced version 2 so they obviously haven't "thrown the towel in'.

Losing the headphone jack is annoying. If Apple wants to get on this wireless kick, they should have started with the charger.

Would have been a way better idea honestly. It also seems (I can't confirm this. it just seems this way) like it would be more expensive.
They are trying to push people to use bluetooth headphones, plain and simple.

agreed. But wireless charging capability would be awesome but the little known fact regarding wireless charging is that it takes a loooooong time to fully charge a battery the size of a iphone's battery.
the tech isn't there yet to completely replaced wired charging

i agree. i have a QI charger built into the bedside clock/bt speaker and i put my nexus 6 on when i go to bed and it probably takes 4 or 5 hours AT LEAST to fully charge.
alternately i can get a 60% charge in 10 minutes using the usb charger they provided.

Then they would have to not sell those shitty $25 lightning cables that break after 5 months.

yeah i gotta agree. we have a glut of USB cables that never ever ever seem to die for all the android devices around the house that we seem to have these in every room. they're like coat hangers..we have more than we can ever use.
however my wife & daughter both have iphones and i swear to god i'm buying a replacement lightning cable at walgreens or target every month.

eta finally found some "stronger" lightning cables at monoprice that were way cheaper than walgreens and seem to be lasting alot longer. (knocks on wood)

My contract is up with Verizon. Do I wait until they have the phones available and just grab it there, or do I do this preorder stuff from the Apple Store on Friday?

I'm in the same boat. I'm going to preorder. It gives you the option to buy for around $500 with a 2 year Verizon contract extension.

Do you think if I go to a Verizon store I might get a better deal? I've never done this before. I got an iPhone 5c 2 years ago and that's the only smart phone I've had, so getting a brand new one is new to me.

I don't know. The carriers changed how they do these smartphones in the last cycle. They don't subsidize them as much as they used to. I doubt you'll get a much better deal, if at all, if you are already a Verizon customer.
I'm just going to pre-order via the Apple store. I have no desire to stand in line at a Verizon store and talk to some millennial ding dong for the chance to maybe save $100.

The Jaybird X2s are big time on sale right now, and they're pretty solid. Battery life is good (7-8 hours).
I just bought a pair of the X2's on Amazon a couple of weeks ago for $75, marked down from $150. They sound incredible.

Unless you go for some Verizon payment plan, you will get the exact same deal on the either website Verizon/Apple or in store also either store. They sell way too many of these to worry about deals.

Amazon ones seem to last just fine for me and I am pretty rough with mine traveling. Have had similar results with monoprice. I have bought a few different braided ones and they have been garbage. Ive shrinked ones myself and had them last longer.

So with the new iPhone you will not be able to listen to your headphones and charge the phone at the same time.
That's fricking cool. Not.
