An Autonomous idea.

So I have this product about autonomous grocery carts. You go to a grocery store, pick one cart out and the cart would follow you around the store. Your drop your groceries in the cart, you checkout and the cart follows you all the way to your car fully autonomously. and when you take out your groceries the cart returns to its station. You wouldn't need an app or anything, the cart would just recognize you and follow you around.
It sounds complicated, but I have sort of developed the technology for how this would work.
I just need some critique on this idea. Is this something regular grocery shoppers would like to use? If you were a VC or Angel investor do you think this is something you might invest in?
I have torn up the idea and found a solution for every possible problem, I'm just throwing this on here to get more feedback.
Thanks!

What does that mean? You have developed the technology as in prototypes or found specific components that can be put together? Or have you essentially conceptualized how to build the required technology using available components? I'm curious but unfortunately probably not a person inclined to invest.

I would find the idea interesting. Incorporate existing technology which scans your items as you put them in the cart, and automatically charges your card when you leave the store and you have drastically improved the grocery shopping experience. There are also carts with wheel locks activated when the cart leaves the parking lot. You could incorporate a variation of that to prevent the cart from leaving the store before the bill is paid.

Where does this idea fit in the age of same day delivery and curbside pickup?

Sorry. My wife would never leave her purse behind her.

How about we skip this and just not enter the store at all?

Neat idea but as a father to small children I'm moving my cart/buggy more than needed bc kids want to be in motion at all time. Unless you cart would stay in my sight line and have a way to sooth a newborn, I think you have a group of shoppers that would ignore them immediately.
I watch more shark tank than I should so I'd like to know certain things. For example what does it cost and would it actually save the store money somehow? I think this solves a problem that doesn't really exists.
Unrelated question..will the cart sense when it is blocking itmes another shopper needs to get to?

what happens if your cart runs over a huge black woman taking up most of the aisle?

The cart could also be in front of her...

Yeah the sensor picks up on things in its environment, so a beeping sound would alert the customer.

There are obstacle avoidance algorithms, the cart is not running into anyone.

I think the in-store movement is an added bonus to the real problem it would solve. The store would save money on wages paid to the employees that bring the carts in from the parking lot.
There have been plenty of times I've gone into a store where there were no carts by the door and I had to go back into the parking lot to find one.
How many times have you been too lazy to get out and move a cart that's blocking a good parking spot?
I've had more than one cart resting against my car when I got out of a store. Sometimes it left a scratch, other times I got lucky.

If you see the need for brick and mortar grocery stores at all, it seems like the next wave would be a hybrid between what Walmart is doing with it's grocery shopping and the walk in model.
In other words, have a very limited amount of inventory in the store front, an app that allows for easy scanning and ordering. The warehouse in back is loading your "cart" for you and meets you at your car with everything you've ordered.
This is all about convenience. I don't think your idea really does much for convenience relative to the Walmart approach, or the approach I mentioned above. The Walmart approach eliminates the checkout line and the time it takes to walk around the store. The approach above eliminates the line, but allows for seeing and feeling the groceries items as needed.
Your approach does neither. But, you don't have to push a cart around.
The truth is that the Walmart / Amazon's of the world are going to win with online shopping.
