I wonder if price match works here. Isn't there a policy that if it drops within a certain amount of time that you can get the difference? So buy what you want and if it goes on sale, you have it and get the difference. If it isn't, then you still got what you want.

while for me, the day so far has been a total bust.
Regardless of the backlash from disappointed customers, likely still a big success for amazon. They motivated people to buy shite they probably didn't need during a slow period and likely got a decent amount of new prime members

There are a lot of items I have been looking up with significant sales. Is this stuff they are putting on sale just for today? I can't tell. Here is an example:
LINK
It's not necessarily one of the deals they are rolling out incrementally, but it's on sale. Will it be back at normal price tomorrow?
I asked this in the big thread, but it got lost in the shuffle.

they motivated me to sign up for my 30 day prime trial but so far this has been a big nothing for me so i'm going to cancel it tomorrow.
honestly, amazon used to have great deals but now you can find better sales at the local grocery or big box stores in town on toliet paper or whatever it is you're thinking is a better deal by paying amazon $99 a year.
when amazon taxes came to TN, their competitive advantage evaporated overnight.
eta and these 5 second 'sold out' deals today are nothing short of ridiculous.
publicity stunt.

I just wanted a Damn Echo and I refuse to pay $179 for it. I clicked when it had 0% Claimed and it made m join the waitlist.

I don't necessarily use Amazon for deals, but rather for convenience. I'll probably still continue to use it when we eventually start having to pay sales tax. I just don't like going to the store, and I'm willing to pay a few dollars more not to go. I also hate waiting a week for online orders to arrive, which can override my aversion to going to a store. Amazon strikes a nice balance that appeases both my impatience and laziness.

The cynic/tinfoil hat-wearer in me was wondering if Amazon has implemented an algorithm that gives new Prime folks special priority for certain deals, particularly Amazon products -- you know, as a way to give the newcomers a better experience, bring them into the Amazon ecosystem, and make them more likely to keep their memberships. It's my theory on why the waitlist/claim system seems glitchy. When I click to join the waitlist, the button disappears and tells me the waitlist is full. If I refresh, the waitlist button appears again, but becomes full when I click. I've even gone to a product page and hovered over the table that says "waitlist full," and then it instantly switches to "waitlist available," until I actually try to click it.

quote:It's not strictly about the price paid for the item. You have to consider the cost of gas and your time to take a trip to the store (and also your time spent shopping around). Usually, if Amazon has what I want, I just buy it right away knowing I'll have it in 2 days and that if there is ANY problem they'll take it right back. I bought some LED tube lights to replace some 4' fluorescents the other day. Amazon had some for $16/ea, so I bought them without even shopping around or doing any research. It cost me $0 in gas, $0 in shipping, and about 5 minutes of my time. Could I get them cheaper somewhere else? I don't know, and I don't really care. Prime has made this a habit for me. I go from idea to purchase in no time, and my life is simpler. And if it turns out I overpaid by so much that it actually matters... Amazon has an option for "better price available" when you return something.

As for things like toilet paper, there is Subscribe & Save, which I think is available without Prime. Just subscribe to toilet paper, paper towels, detergent, shampoo, whatever... if you get 5 items in the monthly shipment, they take 15% off the whole order AND shipping is free. Even if you pay tax on it, it's hard for a local store to beat 15% off Amazon's pricing AND save you gas money and time.
