I ordered a fire tv this morning.. for those who have used both, is there a big difference in speed in the tv vs 2nd gen stick?? I may order a couple sticks for bedrooms before dates go back even further.

possibly not refilling stock if they have a new model coming out soon...
This is the answer that I have gotten from a few articles from Cord Cutting websites.

People are buying them, loading Kodi and selling them on Ebay for 2x what they paid. That's why they can't keep them in stock.

I have both the tv and stick. Started with only stick at first but when I got a 4K TV this Christmas I wanted to have something to stream 4K content. So stick is now in bedroom and TV in living room.
Noticeable difference. TV loads quicker, less buffering and obviously has more storage. Stick is fine if all you are gonna do is Kodi but I'd shell out the extra $50 for the TV.

Not a huge difference, but a difference

First gen FireTV's wifi is terrible, at least the range. Well documented. Gen 2 was supposed to fix that. I think in general the stick has less horsepower and the menu is a bit slower than the FTV.

Got a refurb in in 2 days. Looks and acts brand new. I have a goal to be cord cut by the end of the month, so didn't want to wait for a brand new one. Wanted to go ahead and get my system set up before I cut.

FYI, the refurb fire tv's are still shipping in 2 days. I just canceled my previous order and got a refurb.

At what point will they crack down on Kodi like they do everything else like it from the past?

I wonder the same thing. Hopefully not soon

there's ZERO downside to buying a refurb

Adding a jack for a TV antenna is about the only hardware improvement I can see that would really drive new sales.
They need to do something with their remote....similar to what ATV does...at least let it turn the TV on and turn the volume up and down.
I bet that would help a lot of people that haven't delved into the Harmony world...and probably don't want to.

I saw this the other day.

So Kodi is way more similar to the torrent ecosystem than it is to something like Napster used to be.
If anything happens with Kodi anytime soon it will be because Kodi/XBMC themselves went against their core principle and stopped supporting custom add ons.....or because a damn liberal has already destroyed all our other freedoms.

That's still not a wonderful implementation of an upgrade
....but yea it probably works.

Everyone buying a Fire TV make sure you fill out the survey and tell them what features you'd like. I told them they need to make a Harmony Hub version of the Echo Dot with built in IFTTT like trigger functionality letting you voice control all the devices in your media center. It'd be nice to just say "Alexa TV on" "Alexa open Playstation Vue to ESPN".

Kodi has been around for a while now. It's not because of Kodi it's because of an issue with production of the voice remotes.
