Sales tax collection at 8% starting in November. So wondering if the prime membership is still worth it since I have Netflix.

Guessing Newegg with shop runner for electronics.

Anything for everyday items?

Is this for all states?

New for Alabama, not sure about the other states still holding out. Apparently Amazon voluntarily elected to take sales tax at a reduced rate. So I bet other states will follow soon

Usually only if company has any physical property within state boundaries. They may have added a distribution center somewhere in the state.

Two good things about living in Mississippi; no terrorist attacks and no Amazon distribution centers

Amazon voluntarily has elected to start collecting an 8% use tax for the entire state of Alabama. This keeps them from having to deal with local counties etc... Plus Amazon gets a 2% discount if it pays it's taxes on time.

Effectively Amazon gets a 2% increase on prices in exchange to give the state 6%. The consumer has to pay the 8%.

There are no physical locations in the state.

I bet other states will follow soon.

It's been taxed in Tennessee for as long as I've been here. I don't mind it, but we have a lot of advantages from it in Nashville (Prime Now, Sunday delivery, and same day delivery).

Even without those extras, I'd still primarily use amazon for most purchases. Much more convenient and reliable than any other source I've used. Prime is definitely worth it for the price and what you get.

well, that sucks. I certainly don't go along with the 2% rebate, either.

Amazon has been charging Texas customers sales tax for a while now. They are still usually the cheaper option, especially with the prime free shipping. And often, the seller is a third party using amazon as a middle man. You usually don't have to pay the sales tax on these transactions. But you usually don't get the Prime free shipping either.

dirty little secret.. Almost every storefront on Amazon is also on eBay and almost always cheaper and no tax ever.

People laugh at me when I say EBay but that's because they think I'm bidding on auctions

Also ebay shipping times beat the shite out of Amazon super saver for us non-prime Luddites

I had heard Walmart was interested in Jet. Is the transaction complete and now official?

Alright, this doesn't make sense. If they start doing this shite then best buy and other brick and mortars will rejoice as all they have to do is price match and you get it now. Tax use to be the only reason I didn't get it at the store.

Greedy and dumb

you know this isn't Amazon's fault right? They actively fought the state governments on this for years. They've been forced to collect sales tax.

Amazon wouldn't just give in for a discount on taxes, if they did it in Alabama they'd have to do it for all states pretty quickly. This sounds like the kind of deal that might mean they plan to build a distribution center there.

Came to upvote positive Amazon post from CAD. Also, states still need tax money, even if you're not buying your shite there.
