I agree with you that I probably am but less shite breaks. Family member has a 2021 Mercedes and it takes a damn engineer to fix any tech problems. Give me my 2010 car. It has blue tooth for music and that’s all I need for tech in it. Especially a Toyota. Japanese keep it simple and cheap

Luxury vehicles are notorious with how finicky (and usually outdated) their tech tends to be. I had zero issues with the tech in my mid teens Accord, and I currently have zero problems with the tech in my early 20's Accord.

I can never criticize an Accord. Great car.

I just think apple play and all these screens make for more distractions. Just not for me but I get the appeal.

Not necessarily a CarPlay issue, but maybe someone here can help.

I have a 2019 GMC Sierra, and my phone is always connected via Bluetooth. I would like to be able to use Google Maps on my phone for directions and have the voice directions play over my car speakers while I am listening to something besides my phone. For example- I am driving down the road with my phone connected, but listening to SiriusXM radio. If I put in an address on my phone I must then switch my radio input over to Bluetooth and have to find content on my phone to play so I can hear directions.

My previous vehicle was a 2014 Ford F-150 and it did not have this problem. As long as my phone was connected, the voice directions would play over my speakers no matter what input I was on. The volume would temporarily lower, the navigation would come on, and then the volume would resume.

Any ways around this, or is it just the way it is?

I've found the opposite.

Now, I'll concede the point that cars with just a radio tuner knob had fewer distractions than a modern car with CarPlay. But, for a more reasonable comparison, I'll compare those two vehicles I was just talking about. In my old car, I had bluetooth audio for music and calls. If I wanted to queue up music, I had to use my phone. If I wanted to make a call, I was probably going to use my phone, because the screen interface was clunky. If I got any texts while driving that I wanted/needed to respond to, I would once again be using my phone. Google maps? Looking at my phone.

So much phone.

With CarPlay, all of those functions now route through a significantly larger screen. Most of them can easily be done with voice commands. The system will read my texts to me and allow me to use voice to respond.

In a perfect world, would people just focus 100% on the road? Of course. But we don't live in a perfect world. So if I have my choice between people fumbling with their phones or people using CarPlay/Android Auto, I think the latter is likely a better, safer option.

Just updated the android app for the truck. I like everything but they moved the time from the top left hand corner to the bottom right. The other aspects of the information setup is great.

Hope it comes with a working auto pilot cause there's gonna be some distracted drivers

Dis why I assume they'll never enable Netflix or Hulu for Carplay

You can enable it if your phone is jailbroken.

I am confused by this. What choice are you referring to?

I took it as the crappy songs chosen for the music display widget:

The Chainsmokers - Riptide

Tate McRae - she's all i wanna be
