I just noticed that WGNO, the ABC affiliate in New Orleans, is now on my menu and playing it's content. Did that affiliate finally agree to terms or something ??

Do you enjoy YouTube TV? I'm currently with VUE, but have to switch at end of the month and am leaning towards YT.

You should switch even if Vue weren't going out of business

Right now, YTTV and Hulu with Live TV seem to be the only REAL 2 options for the majority of people. If you already pay for Hulu and don't need AMC, then maybe look at that. If you need AMC and want the best "old school TV Guide style" layout, go with YTTV.

We flip flop back and forth frequently based on price hikes and such. Recently Hulu w/ live tv raised their prices again so we're currently on YTTV.

I'd investigate both...

I was right there with you a few weeks ago and tried out YouTube TV and I really like it. Plus it isn't called something stupid like Hulu.

What I find VERY weird is that ABC is now live on YTTV, however, it's not on Hulu with Live TV. Hulu is mainly owned by Disney/ABC, right?!

Weird that you'd give rights to your main live tv competitor.

ABC has always been on yttv, except in the nola market. Nola affiliate didn't want to be on yttv until recently I guess.

Sure, I understand. ABC is also on Hulu (On Demand). That still doesn't explain to me why ABC/ESPN/DISNEY put the NOLA ABC affiliate on YTTV and NOT on Hulu with Live TV when Hulu is majority owned by Disney.

I don't know of a good analogy but that'd be like Alphabet, INC (parent of YouTube, Nest, Google, etc) putting an official version of YouTube out on iPhones but not on Google Pixel phones.

ABC/Disney don't own the local affiliate. Nola affiliate is owed by Nexstar Media Group. There are contractual limits as to what ABC/Disney can force the local affiliate to do.

Ahh ok, so there's the reasoning then. I was under the incorrect assumption that the local affiliates sort of had to jump when the parent company told them to.
Interesting.

Then I guess the subsequent question is, if they put it on YTTV, seems like Hulu with Live TV should be trickling down eventually, right (at least for the NOLA market)?

One would assume that now an agreement has been negotiated with one provider (YTTV), the other providers will follow suit in fairly short order (the first deal "set the table").

Keep in mind - it takes a loooong time to negotiate with all these affiliates because there are so many. They started at the top (LA, Chicago, NY), then moved their way down . I think NOLA is the 50th largest tv market.

FYI - I suspect that a big part of the hold-up was that the local ABC affiliate was sold to Nextstar by Tribune Media in the last year. That may have caused negotiations with streaming providers to be put on hold. The deal was closed in September 2019, so negotiations probably started shortly thereafter.
